Due to the negative votes on youtube for the trailer, and the expertise you have shown on /tv/, you have been hired to re-make the new Ghostbusters movie before it's released, into something that doesn't suck. You must follow one guideline though: the main cast still has to be all female.
How do you fix the movie?
>>
>Drop the where friends. There scientists who meet up
>Make the ghosts both creepy and surreal i loved the first one and the designs of the ghosts
>Ecto gear is ruined in this movie, scrap the pistols and power gloves and keep it simple
>Jenine wasn't that attractive in the original...
>I guess get better writers who can formulate a better comedy, the original pioneered a lot of jokes that would still be used today
>Why is it set in the same universe?

Amanda Seyfried, Rachel McAdams, Amy Adams and Kerry Washington are 4 former sorority sisters that accidentally killed a nerdy goth. Seeing this as a wakeup call, they decide to become better people as adults and do some joining various fields of work, mostly science.

Now in the present that same goth has been resurrected by her twin to wreak havoc on their lives and the world itself, and it's up to them to finally lay the one ghost from their past to rest.

Its set in Europe somewhere. 4 females (possible 2 americans, 2 locals) end up in a believeable ghostbusters team situation in some European town or castle. Its realistic and gritty. They have fun and get stuck in some bar drinking with some europeans and some funny shit happens I guess. There is an overhanging dread of ghosts and the paranormal, but its light hearted with funny local european characters

Paraphrasing something from another thread.

There is a doomsday prophecy mentioned in G2 i think that is for 2016. Have the new cast being trained by an old cast member or being a franchise store or whatever. The baby from the originals would now be grown up and seeing as he has a history of being around bad shit maybe he is the big bad, or gets possessed, or is the new keymaster or something.
>>
>>66859408
some of the patrons at the bar (or all of them) turns out to be dead people ie ghosts and thats the twist, we realize we should leave the ghosts alone instad of killing them
>>
>Maya Rudolph in place of Leslie Jones.
>Original Ghostbusters cast in major supporting roles (obv apart from Ramis)
>New and original villians/ghosts

Keep the original cast, but make them the ghosts instead, who offer a service like that of Betelgeuse, scaring the shit out of the living ala the Frightners. Peoplebusters, essentially. Half-way through the movie, a group of scientist start tracking their activity and attempt to trap them using home-made particle acceleration beams. If you're going to run the franchise into the ground, might as well do it really fucking hard.

So for the sake of safeness, let's just redo the original GB roster.
Ghostbusters group antics dictate that we need:
>A dry deadpan straightman scientist, the Egon role
>An energetic joyfilled scientist to get excited at spooky stuff, the Ray role
>A sarcastic witty slacker, the Peter role
>An everyman, the Winston role
>A sassy secretary, the Janine role
I'd pick, Aubrey Plaza for the Egon role, Candace Cameron for the Ray role, Kat Dennings for the Peter role, Aisha Tyler for the Winston role and I dunno, Joel McHale for Janine's role.

As for plot, again, safest shit ever:
>New threat arises
>Ghostbusters have been out of work for the past decade
>Egon is dead, Ray rounds up a new team to fight it
>thats it, ghosts and shit I guess
>>
Can the film

We don't need a Ghostbusters remake
>>
Fire Paul Feig from writing and directing duties. Get someone who will direct it like a supernatural thriller that happens to be funny, and get a writer who can do fresh characters and subtle world-building.

My ideal all-female Ghostbusters would have been written by Rebecca Sugar and directed by Alfonso Cuaron.
>>
Recast with

Anna Kendrick
Aubrey Plaza
Mary Elizabeth Winstead
Rashida Jones
>>
I turn it into a porn parody
>>
>>66859502

Nah, bring Rami's back as a CGI ghost who doesn't know/refuses to accept he is a ghost.

It would be pretty hilarious.

90% practical effects.
Make it a more science-fiction approach.
Have the cast be heavily involved in writing the script, create jokes tailored to their style of humor.

Plot is the ever-popular soft reboot approach: After the events of the second movie, Ghostbusting has become almost a common profession. While the world isn't threatened on a continual basis, ghosts are still around and continue to be like rats or bugs: vermin that need to be wiped out. One small group of Ghostbusters suddenly takes on the task of busting the greatest threat they've ever faced: a pair of Gods who are intent on freeing the trapped souls from Ghostbusters prisons all over the country.

Cast: Who the fuck cares.

What's with the Leslie Jones puppet in the OP?
>>
>>66859951
essentially my idea, emphasis on a whole international network of ghostbusters, maybe pull a globetrotting thing and have the main peeps go to like Japan or some shit to fight ghosts.

anything than fucking New York again

>90% practical effects

You want ghosts to be done with practical effects? Jesus, these posts should be site-wide permanent bans. Fuck off you pretentious fat neckbeard halfwit.
>>
>>66859885
this I could get behind, maybe replace someone with Brie larson or just shoehorn her in, whatever
>>
>>66860057
pretentious to want practical effects? having your head up your ass must be so enlightening
>>
>>66860021
I kinda wanted to do a Midwestern/Rural thing. Maybe it's just because I grew up around that (well, kinda sorta), but I feel like endless cornfields and dilapidated farms on the side of the road could make for some really effective creepy-ass imagery.

Egon would love being a ghost. For him it would allow for more experiments.

Have him 'living' with Ray (ghosts can't pick up PKE meters)
>>
>>66860141

Right, and it looks fucking awful you drooling monkey.

>hurr let's regress to shitty school play effects because some obese cheetoh-devouring neckbeards on the internet want it
>>
>>66860122
>practical effects looking like shit

You liked the prequel to The Thing too, didn't you?
>>
>>66859291
>where instead of "we're" and there instead of "they're"

Your script is already shit.
>>
>>66860061

Brie Larson could take the Sigourney Weaver role and make out with Aubrey Plaza.
>>
>>66859906
Would they just reuse footage from the old movies?

As long as they don't do a Chef from South Park it could work.
>>
>>66860189

Is this meant to imply that the effects in The Thing aren't dated to the point of being unintentionally funny? My enjoyment of a movie isn't based on how the effects are done, it's just obviously retarded to want to regress to practical effects in situations where they've been clearly outstripped in every way by modern CGI. A ghost is one of those situations where you'd have to be very clearly brain dead to think practical effects are better than CGI.
>>
>>66860183
How would you do the effects then? If doing practical effects and paying homage to the originals while still having effective and creepy new designs for the ghosts is somehow offensive to your modern sensibilities, how would you create ghosts in a way that doesn't look like pure shit?

Film it all in front of a greenscreen like Sin City?
>>
>>66860286
He likes the super cool neon glow in the dark ghosts.
>>
>>66860283
>the thing effects
>shitty and dated

I don't think you understand how fucking stupid you sound right now.

Besides, it allows for better performances from the actors when you have something to, y'know, interact with. You get the sense that a ghost is actually in the room.
>>
Does it have to be a reboot? If not, I make it a sequel with lots of GB franchises all over the world. Our heroines are new to this, they're not that good (at first), and their offices suck. There's a low number of cases because there's so many GB running around.

First mission: Swamp monster who turns out to be a guy (Joel McHale) in a suit (Scooby-Doo style) trying to make free publicity for his B&B (he's the movie's Tully and his B&B will become the GB base of operations later on, with a fanboat as their transport).

Actresses:
Anna Camp as the leader/The Egon
Jordana Brewster as The Venkman
Amanda Seyfried as The Ray
Keke Palmer as The Winston Zeddmore (character is there from the start, but is working part time at first because they don't make enough money)

Daniel Henney as The Dana

Main plot is about someone trying to shift our world into another "ghost infested" dimension.
>>
>>66860410

Stop motion alone makes something horribly dated. Then the effects themselves look like rubber. You're delusional, which is totally normal for fans of The Thing. Literally the worst fan base in the history of entertainment.

>>
>>66860534
Full Disclosure: I've never seen The Thing. My opinion here is solely based on what few clips I've seen of the movie (Chest Chomp, Spider Head, Dog) and thinking that those clips show a masterwork in practical effects.

Do I think CGI has it's place? Sure, sparingly. In my opinion, it should be used primarily to fill in the gaps that practical effects can't do. You're right about Stop Motion, that looks gay as shit, but I'm holding firm on Practicals being the primary form of effects.

-4 attractive young women
-Instead of a silverback for muh diversity, its an Asian woman
-Make it into a sequel rather than a remake
-Instead of trying to make it into a quirky comedy just make it into a movie that has some funny scenes.

Girls watch a commercial about buying a ghostbuster franchise, they scrape together the money and get the license to be the ghostbusters in their city (somewhere on the West coast). However when the equipment arrives it has some mega ghost that the original team forgot to take out (one not seen in the first or second movie.) hijinks ensue. Film ends with the girls recieving a call from the original team begrudgingly complementing them on a job well done.
>>
>>66860283
This movie looks like a fucking cartoon. The original still holds up extremely well and they were practical effects. There is a reason practical effects are more expensive than CGI you fucking twit
