You're confusing round with dynamic. A character who is the same in the beginning and at the end doesn't make them flat if they have been well rounded throughout the story. That's Ralph's character. That's part of the point, Willem is there to kill him due to some shit that happened in the past. Ralph is telling his story even though Willem has his assumptions. There's a pivotal point in the movie, I forget what about, where Ralph corrects Willem on something and completely changes Willem's perspective on Ralph's character. It's good stuff man.

Spotlight was the worst followed only by Crash. The movie is 100% exposition and entirely avoids dramatic representation of the victims. It's a completely heroic presentation of the Spotlight news team and nothing else.
The only visceral example of pain in the movie is in regard to how 'hard' and 'trying' it was to research the case and surpass its legal boundaries; how these brave reporters, rather than the victims, navigate the turmoil of systemic abuse.
The movie did not show how molestation and rape create a cascading effect of social chaos; there are no images of suicide, or spousal abuse, drug addiction, or the successive chain of sexual assault. Instead, the emotional energy of the film focuses on Mark Ruffalo crying on a fucking porch with his solipsistic monologue.
The ending scene illustrates this point; rather than display the widespread volume of abuse from the perspective of the victims, the movie instead creates an image of the overworked newsteam in a 'valiant' attempt to answer their phone calls.
From the opening sequence of the movie, right down to the very last line, the reporters are named and highlighted as the soldiers of cause.
In short, I eventually realized why this movie affected people; they are the simpletons of the world who have never read the fucking story. This movie was the way these people learned about systemic abuse, and so they equate their own emotional response to the information with the movie itself.
