>>
1. Buy an expensive as fuck camera with an expensive as fuck lens
2. Point it at pretty things and don't shake the camera around

It's really not as hard as people think.

study cameras and capabilities and learn about cinematographers. the cinematographer roundtables (youtube em) and some other videos are interesting. like anything in film or any art, it's a blend of technical skill and feeling/purpose. and tbqh, i think technical skill and just shooting pretty pictures is overrated and overawarded, it should function within and alongside the movies themes/purpose.

if it consistently draws attention to itself it's probably overdone.

less memes more art

Reason why Deak is still the best

A balance of technique and purpose

Lel, it's not really an art or something that requires a lot of skill. If the movie has a good story and you're using an expensive camera with a nice lens, you're good. A decent soundtrack helps too.

Get really into photography. Learn about composition, light, develop your own style. Learn how to work well with others, cinematographers often work very closely with directors.
Anyone who says its easy probably a hack. It would take at least a couple years of diligent practice to be any good.
Read books, buy a camera, talk to people and PRACTICE
>>

>it takes a couple years of practice to get good at filming things
>actually believing this
>>
Invest in a light meter. It'll help you with exposures and give you more ideas on how to create interesting images
>>

So very wrong. Cinematography is the key to good cinema and is probably the second most important role after director.

I bet you really really like capeshit

why do North Americans have such terrible taste?
>>
>>66838660
If you have a good camera (panavision, etc) and a good sound setup you're golden. It's not hard.

Any actual place to learn about cinematography instead of some stupid meming?
>>

Watch movies, pay attention to what is happening with the camera.

Otherwise a solid grasp of the visual arts crosses media.

Read American Cinematographer, there's a torrent somewhere containing many recent issues
The one covering The Master was pretty informative
