Ghostbusters (1984) was an above average comedy that is only as iconic as it is because of a catchy theme song. There's really nothing exceptional about it.

LOOK AT ME MA I'M DOING BAITS ON THE 4CHANS
>>66782802
The special effects were absolutely top notch for the time. It was a really well made summer blockbuster aided by some very talented comedy writers and performers.
>>66782802
i agree
>>66782802
Even if that's the case, what's your point exactly?
Nostalgia amplifies the movie in everyone's hearts and that alone is grounds enough for people to be pissed about a shitty cashgrab remake.
I only watched it a couple of years ago and I found it to be boring and gay
>>66782802
and bill murray is an unfunny asshole. I don't see the appeal
>>66782831
Hell even now the ghost effects hold up quite well.
>>66782857
He's just cynical, smug and aloof.
>>66782802
>watch trailer
what's coming out: ghostbusters 2016
what's expected: ghostbusters remake
what you'll get: thelma and louise with ghosts
it's a lesbian chick flick
>>66782802
Little children latched onto the idea and then they merchandised the shit out of it.
>>66782887
Thelma and Louise? That doesn't even make sense.
>>66782802
It's a comedy with a weird concept that isn't built like a comedy. It's more of a scifi action adventure with comedy elements to it.
Pretty unique, especially for the time.
>>66782887
But Thelma and Louise is good
>>66782925
based on the trailer it's basically aimed at chicks who enjoyed thelma and louise
>>66783034
not saying it's bad. just saying it's what the movie's target audience is.
>>66783168
Thelma and Louise just seems like an odd comparison though. Why not Fried Green Tomatoes or something?
Ghostbusters and to a lesser extent Ghostbusters II are fucking hilarious comedies. Murray holds a lot of the weight with his perfect delivery but each character still has at least a couple of decent gags to them.
>>66783196
Little lines like "I looked at the trap, Ray" still crack me up.
>>66782948
this
>>66782802
You're right but I like the designs of the ghosts too, those were pretty cool.
>>66783238
"It's true. This man has no dick."
Fucking perfect delivery.
>>66783238
This
I love that he said it and nothing bad happened
>>66782802
Tell me op, what is Ghostbusters about? Ghosts aren't real so that's not the answer.
>>66782802
pretty much yes
I really liked it as a kid (who didn't), but much of it is just nostalgia nowadays
>>66783191
it's what the trailer reminded me of. it's what came to my mind when i watched the trailer.
>>66782802
This is all true
Apart from it being an above average comedy, literally never laughed once and only americucks like bill murray, he's probably the most over rated comedy actor of all time.
This thread is very illustrative of how /tv/ understands movies.
>it's a comedy
>it's average
>the theme song is good
>the special effects were cool
>the special effects have aged
>I liked the funny lines
>I don't like Bill Murray
>it's just nostalgia
>the audiences are stupid
>I don't like the new remake's trailer
Not a single word about the story.
>>66783459
The story is very formulaic of 80s comedies. The ending is exceptional because of the Ghost setting, but everything up to that point is fairly by-the-numbers. The "villain" is just an asshole doing his job.
>>66783459
lel you sound like that reviewer who hated the movie because it did not have enough talking. he was homosex flamer flamboyant, too, who like to talk talk talk talk talk and who makes side glances to check people at the far end of the room can hear him-her and is listening.
>>66782802
Can we agree that the cartoon was better than the movies?
>>66782802
You forgot to mention that it established a highly likable, timeless universe with really great characters all with their unique personalities.
Comedy is subjective, but you can't deny that it established a really nice setting that's interesting to watch.
There is a reason why there's such a big following for it to this day.
>>66783541
>cartoon
>not anime
KRAKAPTOOOIIEEEEEEEE
>>66783574
Are you alright?
>>66782802
OP is a huge pleb faggot with no taste only getting replies for trying hard to be contrarian about things.

>>66783551
Yeah, I like how there's a hint of cynicism towards what they're doing but it's not overpowering or the focus of the film (for the first one at least).
>>66783598
Are you new here? That's how 4chan works.
>Tfw you're so patrician you understand that Ghostbusters is a masterpiece at the same level as 2001 and Alien
>>66783607
Not cynicism, I mean skepticism.
>ITT BABY-MEN
>>66783642
The same goes for Groundhog day by the way
>>66782802
As i child i liked ghostbusters 2 better for some reason, i also liked Star wars 3 better than 2
>>66782802
It was a new and original idea. If you look at the popular movies these days (capeshit) you realize how special that is.
>>66782871
You might as well be describing Reddit
>>66783693
>Star wars 3 better than 2
Star wars 6 better than 5. Still, you're a goddamn faggot.
>>66783482
There's more to Ghostbusters than 'lovable fraud tries to win over a girl out of his league while his wacky friends drag him into trouble with the authorities', and that particular plotline is not executed in a way that could be transplanted to another movie, since it's inherently tied to the ghost hunting occultist conspiracy stuff.
>>66783590
WHY THE FUCK DO PEOPLE KEEP ASKING ME THAT?
Okay who brought the dog?
>>66783795
it's who let the dog out, you blithering idiot
