It was supposed to be like that. Travis' life is sort of aimless and without direction.
To me this is a really cool action movie. I don't get why people see it as a masterpiece and serious movie and all that, it's basically Max Payne: The Movie or something for me. Considering it's from the 70's it blew my mind that it's so much like a videogame with a deep story. And I mean deep for a videogame, not for a movie.

I don't get why you'd think that was necessarily bad. They aren't "the same" but they are two sides of the same coin, and it's very interesting watching them back to back. Both are black comedies (Taxi Driver more serious and more black than comedy, only very subtly a satire, while King of Comedy is outright funny and less serious but still slightly so). I think they're both 10/10s to be honest familia, both in my top 50.
