What was the last great slasher movie? Feel like there haven't been any for ages.
>>
speaking of slasher how bout that new tv show
>>
>>66730760
Slashers are sort of rooted in the 1980s, all we've got since then are throwbacks and nostalgia.

Back then it was the boogeyman, these days it's all about how you fucked your ownself up (Saw, Hostel).
>>
I love old horror films. They just had a certain feel to them. Those were the days people thought stuff like this was a good idea
>>
Outside of Halloween, what are the great slasher movies?>>66730772
>>
>>66730853
At least they're making Sadako vs Kayako (The Ring vs The Grudge). Now that's the sorta shit the 80s would be all over. It's amazing we're getting a movie like that being made in this day and age.
>>
>>66730809
They also rely on you not being able to call for help.
Everyone has a phone on them at all times these days.

here are some modern ones:

the collector
hatchet
vacancy
the strangers
the loved ones
the hills run red
the devils rejects
mother's day
the hills have eyes remake
wrong turn (avoid the sequels)
the hitcher
cold prey

It was Halloween.

Beyond the Black Rainbow had slasher elements to it.
>>

Not the guy you're replying to, but honestly are there any decent slasher movies at all, outside the Friday the 13th series, Elm Street series, and some of the Halloween movies? That's the whole list, isn't it?
>>
>>66730983
>bunch of crap
>>66731022
Black Christmas is good. Halloween is the subgenre's sole masterpiece imo. I'd take Scream over Nightmare on Elm Street, but that could be nostalgia.
>>
>>66730760
It Follows was the last, great slasher film that brought a tired, juvenile genre to its logical conclusion.
>>
>>66731022
Original Texas Chainsaw massacre
2 is fun too
>>
>>66731102
Less is more, that's what really works for Halloween I and Nightmare on Elm Street I, the rest are whatever. Haven't seen the Scream sequels since they were new.

Black Christmas is also good, but is it really a slasher?
>>
>>66731022
Elm Street is shit.

>>66731112
It Follows is absolute fucking garbage.
>>
>>66731112
It Follows was tired and juvenile so I guess that makes it the logical conclusion.
>>
>>66731179
This guy right here, and guys like him, are the problem with this thread and the genre in general.

You have a pie chart that is 100% horror fans, where one portion wants a great story and a great bad guy, and another portion just wants gorey, bloody kills.

Anyone who would shit on Elm Street (or It Follows, for that matter), clearly just wants to see murders and isn't interested in any semblance of plot or stakes.
>>
>>66731112
It Follows was horrible

I bet you're the kind of guy who skips to the DVD chapters with the action scenes in porn and Michael Bay movies.

Isn't wrong turn 2 supposed to be good?

I bet you're the kind of guy who isn't even far enough into his kinography canon to enjoy the films of Wes Anderson yet. And pic related is my favourite flick. I dare you to try watching it you faggot, the sheer majesty of it would overwhelm you pathetic pleb sensibilities.

There are no great slashers

>This guy right here, and guys like him, are the problem with this thread and the genre in general.
Sounds like you don't like horror films. Guess it's not a surprise you like It Follows, a horror film aimed at hipsters who don't understand the genre.
>You have a pie chart that is 100% horror fans, where one portion wants a great story and a great bad guy
Huh? There is so much more to horror than this, and It Follows had neither.
>and another portion just wants gorey, bloody kills.
Gore hounds are tiresome, but so are people who dismiss much of the genre's offerings based on kneejerk reactions to its seedier elements.
>Anyone who would shit on Elm Street (or It Follows, for that matter), clearly just wants to see murders and isn't interested in any semblance of plot or stakes.
And they love Hitler.
