Carnage is the wet dream of every edgy teenager. I remember buying the entire Maximum Carnage comic arc after playing the video game and being amazed at how shitty it was. Carnage is everything bad about 90's comics personified.

When it fits the character it should, which is why Dredd was R-rated since the comic itself could get pretty brutal and features a woman turned into roadkill from a street POV.

In the Maximum Carnage story arc, it's said that he's killed dozens (if not hundreds) of New Yorkers, but you never actually see any of it happen. It's funny too, because in the TPB of Maximum Carnage, the author says he made it as a counterpoint to all of the edgy grimdark shit going on at that time in comics - the idea that old school heroes still have a place in spite of everything.

Right, he was a me-too edgy 90s villain. It was an excuse to put an EXTREME looking character on the cover to sell more books. He's one of the poster boys for 90s comics shittiness. The main thing everyone knows him from (Maximum Carnage) is one of the worst comics ever written.
All Carnage had going for him was his violence, but in a day and age where the likes of Sabretooth has his own child rape/bite orgy room, he's become irrelevant.
