What's the longest film you've ever seen, /tv/? At lot of people criticized Cloud Atlas for being just 3 hours long.

I watched The Children of Golzow (42 hours) for a graduate level course. For pleasure I've marathroned Lord of the Rings (11 hours), and I've seen the original 1925 Les Miserables (6 hours).

A film buff friend of mine has seen Melancholia (7.5 hours) with subtitles.
>>
Lawrence of Arabia, I guess
>>
>>66663279
I saw Saw Fest when the Saw IV was being released. Marathoned all 4 movies in one night with only 10 minute breaks between them.

Gonna go see Lawrence of Arabia in 70mm at my local art theater this weekend.

Watched the Russian Ark in one sitting. That was very difficult to watch without cuts. Very.
>>
>>66663339
The Saw Fest was being shown in theaters btw. started at noon, ended whenever. at least 6 hours
>>
>>66663316
>>66663339
Lawrence of Arabia is on my bucket list. I better cross it off this weekend.

I just finished The Thief of Baghdad so it will be topical.
>>
>>66663339
>Russian Ark
It must be extraordinarily boring because it clocks in at just 96 min
>>
Sátántangó
>>
>>66663279
>Lord of the Rings (11 hours)
Well if you get to count all the movies combined at once of course it's long

But yeah that's probably the longest I've sat through
>>
>>66663582
>Sátántangó
>7 hours
>100% Rotten Tomatoes
>Universal acclaim
Meanwhile
>Cloud Atlas
>3 hours
>75% Rotten Tomatoes
>Every complaint is that it is too long

Modern critics
>>
>>66663672
Okay OP we get it you're one of the Wachowski brothers
>>
>Been wanting to watch Love Exposure
>It's 4 hours and been on my backlog for months
I wish I was still in high school so I could just watch it at the computer lab after finishing my work
>>
>>66663672
Satantango is an arthouse flick from the 90s. Cloud Atlas is a very recent blockbuster. They weren't rated by the same movie critics
>>
>>66663794
I'm with you man, I work and go to school right now so I just don't have time like I did in high school. Lawrence of Arabia and 7 samurai are on my to do list.
>>
>>66663875
>flick
It was clearly a film
>>
>>66663279
For me it was Nymphomaniac at 5 hours. I watched both parts back to back. Unless you count the day I watched all 3 LotR extended directors cuts back to back. That was around 10 hours.
>>
>>66663925
>7 samurai
I preferred The Magnificent Seven to be honest

ima trust you and assume you aint meme posting here..

how the devil do you watch a 42 hour film? like a tv show and watch whenever you want? is it an event where you stay til it's done and there's regular intermissions and stuff? art is weird dude
>>
>>66663794
it doesn't feel like 4 hours at all. it doesn't drag for even a minute, fucking watch it. Sion Sonos masterpiece hands down.
>>
>>66663988
you watch it episodically dum dum
>>
>>66663988
We were given 3 weeks to watch it

There was a ton of pausing anyway to take notes, it was not a pleasure watch

It's a documentary, but it was shot and edited surprisingly well. I personally knocked it out in one week.
>>
>>66664016
Then it doesn't really count. OP started the thread with something he didn't even do.
>>
>>66663279
I binge watched reservoir dogs once. Exhausting as fuck
>>
>>66664056
that's a regular work schedule
fuck that.

what was it about?
>>
>>66663279
Meloncholia was 7.5 hours? Holy shit, I remember watching that when it came out and it flew by, I guess that's the longest film I've seen that I enjoyed throughout.
>>
>>66663279
Holy shit, there is a 7-hour version of Melancholia?
>>
>>66664173
A documentary of children growing up in Golzow, a small town outside of Berlin, after the end of WW2. It's in East Germany.

It follows their lives as they grow up and checks in at regular intervals to see how they feel about the world and their prospects. The child I selected for my study went on to become a painter by trade.
>>
>>66663279
I think mine is Fanny and Alexander (5 hrs 40 min). It's also one of my favorite films.
>>
what kind of shitty graduate course has you watch a 42 hour long """""""film"""""""" about ass backwards people during the GDR.
>>
>>66663279
A lot of people criticized Cloud Atlas, but it's length wasn't even one of the major reasons why.
>>
>>66664397
History of Modern Germany (1945-1990)
>>
West of the Tracks, over 9 hour multi part documentary about shitty China
>>
>>66663430
its not boring, its a single cut. it makes it uncomfortable to watch because you never get a "break"

its like holding your pee for a long time.
>>
>>66663279
Once upon a time in America is 4 hours or something
>>
>>66664225
that actually sounds really interesting. i'd totally watch that. at weekly, hour long intervals.

also im a huge pleb and watched all the star wars prequels in one sitting once. that took a while.
>>
>>66664477
The prof said there has never been a sociological study of this length of depth, and I believe it. I was glad to be done, but it's basically a goldmine for insights on how regular people felt as opposed to the kinds of people who normally write (journalists, rich people writing memoirs, political radicalists writing manifestos, etc.)

>>
>>66663279

Cloud Atlas was hated being a pretentious piece of shit. 6/10 at best
>>
>>66664536
I took a history course over the summer at my local CC and the prof was such an autist over the civil war that they said anyone who watched Gods & Generals (and would take a test to prove it) would get a steak dinner on him.

I didn't do it because I was afraid I might be expected to eat the dinner with him.
>>
>>66664713
>pretentious
It was a throwaway action flick, not pretentious at all

>literal dodging bullets in the Korean scenes
>fight off raiders
>shootout in the city
>fight with the doctor on the slave ship
Not one of the plots didn't have a big fight scene

I'm working on a doctorate and I work as a research assistant for a pittance (mostly for the resume credit). I'm from a very rich family and I can last on the inheritance, I still live in the family house and don't see any point in moving out ever.

>>66664536
10 years ago I had my wisdom teeth pulled, and rented a bunch of movies to watch while I ate a bunch of codeine. I rented this because I figured it was like renting two movies at once.

There was a decent movie in there, but because of autism it got way too detailed. Would have been better off as a mini series.
