>Anywhere not in your pocket. Where it'll get mixed in with the others and become just a coin. Which it is.

What did he mean by this?

He meant that it's a memento, a keepsake of their interaction. It's just a coin, but what is more important is the memory that's attached to the coin, which would be lost is it mingled with his pocket-change and became indistinguishable from the others.

Alternatively he's as crazy as a shithouse rat, and it means nothing outside of his own warped mind.
>>
An insignificant coin became the focal point of a life or death situation, for it to only be returned to his pocket and just become another coin again.

Metaphor for something

Why does he do this type of shit to people in the first place?

Assuming he is *not* crazy, and has some kind of coherent personal agenda.

U faggots

The outcome of the coin had no effect.

Did you autists even finish the movie Jesus christ
>>
>>66565251
precisely. the entire point of the film is that nothing matters. we will all die.
>>
i never got what sheriff's dreams signified at the end and i read the book as well
>>
>>66564631
The only significance is the significance we attach to things, but it is important to attach it in order to create a sense of meaning in life.
>>
>>66565079
What do you mean you don't understand why he does this? You're on 4chan, anon. Fucking with people for shits and giggles is a staple in this Taiwanese Train Jerk-Off Club xanga guestbook.
>>
>>66565272
That seems like a pretty obvious point to make.

I mean, everyone knows that.
>>
>>66565274
I think it's just him just wanting to share his recent dream with someone like sometimes people do. Maybe you have a particularly ominous dream, but like pretty much all dreams they have no solid meaning. I would like it if it was meant to be like that, that the dream is just something he shared and had no particular meaning
>>
>>66565251
>The outcome of the coin had no effect.
So Sugar would have spared the guy even if he made the wrong call?

According to the movie he doesn't have a sense of humor.
>>
>>66564768
I think the coin was chance, like our chance of dying? How everyday we have a chance of having something terrible happen to us (heart attack, cancer, murder...) and we take for granted everyday all these terrible things that we avoid daily and how each of the days that we "beat the odds" of not dying become another coin in the pocket.
>>
>>66565573
So you have a 50% chance of dying everyday?

You need to get new hobbies.
>>
>>66565446
Worst line reading ever from this guy in this scene.
>>
>>66565446
In my opinion, he does and it shows in his actions. But it's more of a fatalistic, dark sense of humor. For example, the coin scene. Anton's a hitman, he kills with no regard, and that is his reason for being or his "fate" so to speak. He should kill this clerk regardless of the outcome of coin toss. But he goes against his fate and decides to spare this man his life. This is funny only to him, which might explain why he makes that face at the end of the scene. It's a combination of a shrug and holding in laughter to me. That's my interpretation anyway.
>>
>>66565643
Chainsaw bear fucking on a flaming motorcycle?
>>
>>66564631
the coin is special because it saved his life.

put it in your pocket and it'll get mixed up with the non-special coins that didn't save your life

...but the coin that saved your life really is just another coin, and there's nothing special about it.
>>
>>66565079

He's kind of an arrogant prick. Narcissism is a common feature of psychopaths. He sees people as stupid cattle; he even uses a pithing gun (the pneumatic spike, used to kill livestock in a slaughterhouse) to do his work.

He was toying with the guy because the guy said something inane and it got on Chigurh's tits so he took time out of his busy schedule to burn an ant with a magnifying glass.
>>
>>66565643
I didn't mean these things literally have a probability of a coin toss

If there was no intended comparison, then why use a completely binary object like a coin to illustrate the point?

For your analysis, dice would have been better.

>>66565852
It would seem that he has 2 sides.
>>
>>66565680
Him being a hitman doesn't mean he's just going around killing people for no reason.
He had no reason to kill the clerk.
And he wasn't going to.
>>
>>66564721
Also, after their interaction, the coin contains a greater value, one that is not monetary, as it saved his life, in a sense.
>>
>>66566026
are you trolling?
>>
>>66566083
I know, but he kind of also does it for no substantive reason (other than money and temporary loyalty to whomever hires him). I'm not trying to be a smartass, I'm just trying to explain what I'm thinking. And he also does kill for no reason, but yeah collateral damage falls within what his job is but still there is no reason to kill those people. I also think there was no real reason to kill Carla, but he did enter into a verbal contract with her husband and that's what lead to her death. It can be argued that he also went into a verbal contract with the clerk and that might give him reason to kill the clerk if he lost the coin toss.

who the fuck keeps coins in there pocket anyways?

why does he care so much that this old fuck preserves the coin so he gets a good life lesson if he was going to kill him 30 secs earlier

he is basically a walking contradiction and so is this movie
>>
>>66565079
He only did the coin thing with that guy when he mentioned his license plate. Remember when he let the Blind guy live? Anton is paranoid as fuck about loose ends, thats how he was able to get away with a fuckzillion murders without them ever even getting a description of him.

As to why he goes on his weird rants. A lot of Antons crazy ranting is parahprased existentialism. OPs quote in particular being "existence precedes essence", the cornerstone of existential thought. Which is why its the first real dialogue we get from Anton.

Cormac is a hardcore traditional values Catholic who doesnt buy into any newfangled philosophical bullshit. Anton is supposed to demonstrate how fucking batshit you would have to be to live your life according to those principles instead of just writing about them from the comfort of your philosophy tenure. And how alien and weird they come off as to anyone who isnt an emotionally stunted fedora tipper.

>>66565274
Watch/Read The Road. Its about him carrying on the light of traditional values.

this
>>
>>66565416
No, he would have killed him, but the point is that doesn't matter. His life, or your life or my life doesn't matter. It's nihilism.

Not as much traditional values as it is "good" values.
>>
>>66564721

I think you're right, but it's strange considering in virtually every other scene he goes out of his way to ensure that he's NOT noticed or remembered by anyone left alive. That always puzzled me about this scene.
>>
>>66566381

10/10 post
>>
>>66565272
Exactly the opposite what the fuck you retard
the point was you should toss the coin and not debate forever on what you stand to lose, because that will get you killed
>>
>>66565379
I think it was more that even though he had spent a lifetime on the force, seeing countless horrible things, with this last case in particular that finally forced him to retire, tired of the horrors and ugliness of man, he could still take sollace in the positive memory of his father, who was the driving force behind all he saw as good in the world.
>>
>>66565251
THE COIN HAS NO SAY

IT'S JUST YOU
>>
>>66565079
Because he sees himself as a personification of death. And with it comes ego.
>>
>>66566879
You can certainly see Catholic influences in his writing and I think he was raised Catholic but is he actually Catholic?
>>
>>66564631
What a fucking waste of time movie. It ended with nothing. It was like watching Tarantino flicks but without a climax.
