Not sure what there is to say that hasn't been said, the guy's just a great craftsman, he lived and breathed every aspect of filmmaking and gave no fucks about marketability, but somehow got away with making big budget epic after big budget epic.
Yeah there are plenty of movies that do particular things better than in any Kubrick movie, but what his movies had was that cohesion, that attention and care paid to every aspect for better or worse. There wasn't any aspect that really overpowered the rest.
