>>66479856
/pol/
>>66479856
Not /tv/ that's for fuckin sure
/gif/
>>66480132
yeah thats why im asking ive hit a bit of a wall and dont know where else to look
Think about a movie you like
Now go watch more movies by the same director or similar genre
That's all
I can recommend you a movie right now
>>66480222
Honestly, imdb. That "people that liked x also liked y,z, etc" feature is great. I don't give a flying maddafack about the ratings tho.
>>66480316
please do.
>>66480245
yeah ive hit the point where ive seen pretty much everything that i would want to by the directors that i like and am having a hard time finding more directors that i really enjoy. I've been trying to look through studios as well if anyone knows of a good one
>>66480649
What genres do you like? I can point you to some more obscure stuff depending on the genre.
>>66480966
I don't really stick to any genre but I tend to like films that are powerful- Boys Don't Cry and Monster have been on my mind a lot. I like Picnic at Hanging Rock a lot. I tend to like mystery/thriller. I like paranormal or stuff that blends the line of reality. I like obscure stuff as well. I would love as much as you can give me
>>66481175
Mulholland Drive
Imdb -> related movies
>>66481304
Yeah by Lynch I've seen Twin Peaks, Fire Walk With Me, Mulholland Drive, Blue Velvet, Eraserhead, and Dune and enjoyed all besides Dune only because I wish Jodorowsky's version was made instead
>>66481463
But what if you've seen everything and are in a loop with it? How do you break out of your funks to find great movies?
>>66481548
Look for someone's list
>>66481600
yeah i guess itll just be a lot of digging.
>>66480966
Comedy, adventure, suspense/conspiracies
>>66481685
Also top 250 ;^)
>>66481902
guh
Can anyone give me a comedy that will make me laugh out loud?
(Just act like I am you)
>>66482118

>>66481747
>Suspense
House of Games
Cure (Japanese)
Rosemary's Baby
The Parallax View <--- Great conspiracy stuff
What are you favorite films? The first ones that come to mind
If I want a new movie to watch (ie not related to a favorite director or whatnot) I'll cross reference imdb top 250 and AFI top 100
Did that with Treasure of Sierra Madre the other day. Was really good
>>66482207
Super Troopers, Naked Gun, Scary Movie
>>66482220
kek I just yesterday watched Parallax View... found it ok but inferior to All the President's Men. The ending is a bit lackluster.
>>66481175
Mothman Prophecies
Shotgun Stories
Southern Comfort
The Proposition
Heavenly Creatures
The Crying game
>>66482375
i will check these out thank you. do you have any recs for stuff like korrine or cannibal holocaust?
>>66482730
>>66482375
or stuff that will make me cry
What's a good city thriller like night crawler?
>>66483093
Seven
>>66482730
>cannibal holocaust
Anything Fulci or if you like it more artsy, Dario Argento. Zombi comes to mind. Just don't watch anything Argento did after Opera(late 80s I think) or Fulci after 80.
That's if my assumption that you're a gorehound, if you're into nasty shit Passolini's Salo or most of Takashi Miike's or Beat Kitano's work would probably suit you:
>Ichi the Killer
>Sonatine
>Brother
>Audition
If you get into Miike you'll literally have 100+ hours of films to watch
>korrine
I hated all his stuff so sorry, can't help you there.
>>66483198
yeah suspiria is one of my all time faves so you hit the nail on the head there ive seen a lot of his stuff. havent really looked into fulci's other work besides zombi tho.im not quite so much into the most extreme stuff tho like salo or begotten but im sure the time will come for that
>>66482871
>crying movies
That's so fucking subjective I don't even know what to tell you, I got misty eyed for various films and for varied reasons:
>room(watched it while visiting my parents' house)
>Kagemusha
>7 samurai
>Twilight Samurai
>Pan's Labyrinth
>Leon
>Waltz with Bashir
>>66483093
Drive
Thief
It's a spiritual trilogy 2bh
IMDB, Rottentomatoes, AFI, Sight & Sound, Academy Awards
>Crying
Out of the Blue
>City Thriller
Cop w/ James Woods
>Korine
The Idiots - Von Trier
Pixote, a favorite of Korine
Also I use lists on MUBI. I don't have an account anymore, but it's a good resource.
>>66483456
People who like Cannibal Holocaust generally like Italian exploitation films, so Bava, Fulci and Argento immediately pop up.
What I would recommend is a film called Dellamorte Dellamore(translated I think into Cemetary Man" from the mid 90's. Actually got this from Marty Scorkayzee in one of his interviews in which he praises the ever loving shit out of it. It follows some of the trappings of the giallo but it's not really Argento. And because you loved Suspiria so much, Satoshi Kon's Perfect Blue is fucking it mayne.
Hope this helps
>>66483841
Yeah I like bava's work but sometimes its a bit dated for me. I will check out marty boy's rec tho. and yeah ive been in love with kon's work lately! perfect blue, paranoia agent, and paprika were all so good!! he immediately became one of my favorite anime directors after i saw them.
>>66483841
Italians like gory stuff?
>>66484235
>bava is a bit dated
Definitely. I watch them and enjoy them because they are cheesy and it's funny to think that this shit basically broke cinema conventions way back when. Nothing that is violent or just disturbing in cinema would have happened at all, or it would have happened much later had it not been for him. Probably.
>Satoshi
Check out Memories. It's a portmanteau, but Jesus fuck, you'll notice the segments he worked on.
>>66484426
>what I said
>
>alpha centauri
>
>your head
>>66484695
what?
>>66483809
out of the blue, the idiots and pixote all look right up my alley thank you so much
>>66484577
Memories has been sitting in my torrent folder waiting for seeds :( although i cant wait to watch it. im debating on just breaking down and watching it on a stream. im sure i can find a decent one.
and yeah i agree with bava and stuff like that. i tend to watch it more for fun and novelty. some stuff is pretty cool but yeah its funny how that was what the weird/dark people had. they did not nearly have as much as us to pick from
>>66481474
>hasn't seen elephant man
watch elephant man right now. incredibly brilliant and moving film.
>>66484955
you're right i really need to do this
>>66484695
>What I said is that gore hounds usually like Italian horror cinema, be it giallo or other exploitation stuff.

>this is Alpha Cnetauri, a star system with 2 stars and a dwaf star, located around 4 light years away from our Sun

>>66485545
yeah i will. thanks for everything and if theres any other movies that you enjoy shout em out
>>66485829
You've probably seen most of these, but I managed to narrow down my fav list to 25. Literally the movies I recommend the most
I'm jealous
I'm feeling overwhelmed by the amount of shit I haven't seen. It must feel good to look at lists and lists of films and not finding any you haven't seen.
