Jesus needs to talk to Rick, and like we saw in last week's episode, he doesn't care if Rick is naked in bed. Jesus tells Rick about the Hilltop Colony and what he hopes to do. Jesus is very smart and wants to work something out between Alexandria and Hilltop, a neighboring deal, if you will. Jesus points out that Alexandria is low on food, something Hilltop is rich of, but the Hilltop Colony is heavily lacking weapons, something Alexandria has plenty of. You get the point.
Rick, Michonne, Glenn, Maggie, Daryl, and Abraham go with Jesus to the Hilltop Colony to check it out. They meet a few people along the way, including, very conveniently, a gynecologist for Maggie.
The Grimes' gang arrives to Hilltop and meet the leader there, Gregory. But unfortunately, unlike Jesus, Gregory is arrogant, rude, and unwilling to work a deal with the crew. If they want food, they'll have to work for it, Gregory tells them. He also annoyingly calls Maggie "Natalie."
Negan will be mentioned! While Team Rick is still at Hilltop, more members of their group will arrive, but not all of them. When asked where the rest are, the survivors say they were killed by Negan. A man named Ethan stabs Gregory, this is Negan's message to them. Rick kills him. Gregory is injured, but still alive. Jesus then tells Rick about another community, the Saviors. These guys demand supplies from the Hilltop in exchange for their safety.
Maggie tells Gregory that her group knows how to handle guys like the Saviors, something we all know. Except this time, they don't know what they're getting themselves into. Gregory has no choice but to agree to Maggie's terms - Team Rick will handle the Saviors in exchange for half of Hilltop's food. Maggie also demands an ultrasound. The equipment for that is also conveniently located at the Hilltop Colony.

Shane would have literally killed people to get his own way in the group. He was going to kill Rick, his best friend and mentor just to keep pounding on dat Lori.
I agree Shane was a hardcore guy, but he's more the type who would take the easy way out, eventually he would have become exactly like the people at Terminus, or, more accurately, the people that first attacked terminus and turned them into the cannibals that they were.
Shane would have raped and murdered his way across the zombie apocalypse, and it would have been beautiful, but it would have been a boring story about a guy murdering people and looting their stuff.
