this. i thought the first two episodes were a great way to tie back into the original mytharc of government conspiracy, but with more modern themes: terrorism, government surveillance, police states, etc, plus tying back into a large but seemingly mostly forgotten plot device, their son.
now they've fucked around with MotW episodes until nearly the end, and while they were solid shows, it seems kind of pointless to bring up this huge government cover-up story again, only to forget it for half of the "season."

I find it strange that I'm honestly enjoying this season of the X-files. I dunno, I thought I would have wanted more of the dark "smoking man conspiracy" stuff, but i find myself just pleased with the episodes we've had.
Honestly, towards the middle of the show, i lost interest in all 'serious' stuff, and started watching it purely for keks. When you think about it Mulder and Scully is actually a pretty comical pairing. The show could have almost been a comedy right from the get go.

The series is a huge HUGE fucking joke after this episode holy shit was it bad. They literally made the Texas airport cowboi central and whats funny to me is they had SHITLOADS of PC imagery down to the fucking peanut butter and jelly sandwich he eats before blowing up the art museum.

Was I hallucinating the whole thing, or was the original far more down beat? Sure, the odd funny episode, and a couple gags at the show's expense, but that was just to let it breathe. Now there's the conspiracy and jokes about the conspiracy. There's no emotional weight. Mrs. Scully's obligatory snuffing didn't work it out.
The whole thing's cutesy crap stitched up with laughs and a holy history people love to justify it all on.
