It's got some great episodes.
Season 4 is almost all 3-part story arcs with schenanigans on vulcan, augments and a guest appearance by Brent Spiner, the romulan episodes.
As far as stand alone episodes go, there are plenty. A good rule of thumb is avoid temporal cold war episodes, and watch anything with based Shran making an appearance.

The TOS movies are a good place to start. I'd say start at the wrath of khan, while I love the motion picture, it's a pleb filter, and I don't want these threads filled with SO BORING NOT EVEN ANY 'SPLOSIONS.
Season 1 is a lot better then people give it credit for, season 2 was hamstrung by the writers strike, which led to using unused scripts from the TOS era, and half finished bullshit. It's literally the reason why the season finale was a clip show.
So if you're in season two and feeling restless, just push through. When riker gets the beard, and gene gets kicked upstairs, the show peaks and sets a high note the franchise never beats.
And remember:Trek Virgins don't get to skip episodes.

The TOS movies are all pretty good, except V. TMP is like 2001 meets star trek, visually stunning, but will bore the shit out of normies. And even final frontier, while it's a train wreck, is still enjoyable when you learn about the production. It was pretty much cursed, and anything that could go wrong, did, the only missing a gypsy curse.
2, 3, and 4 are all pretty self contained movies, but it's got a larger story arc to it. Most people hate on the search for spock, but aside from the last act it's some great trek and world building.
The Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered County is GOAT. Like wrath of khan, it's a legitimately great movie despite being genre trash.

That always felt strangely comfy to me. The hamfisted editing and cuts during the fight scenes he always just struck me as an intentional (possibly unintentional) nod to the ones from TOS. There was no saving the planet at this point and the fates of his crew and Spock were largely out of his hands. He just wanted to pummel the guy who had his son killed.
It worked a lot better than, say, Generations, where his stunt double is absurdly out of place and having the lives of 230 million people rely on a "classic Kirk punch-up" felt like really forced fan service by that time.

She had some good episodes but her character seemed stagnant to me, after a point.
Even if the other characters weren't as iconic as the creators had hoped, turning 7o9 into a Deus Ex for a lot of episodes certainly throttled any future character growth they might've had.
Then, they never really seemed certain what to do with Seven herself. Did they want a Borg on a Federation vessel? Did they want a redemption story? Did we want an anti-hero?
They definitely touched upon all those themes but for whatever reason never settler on one and so Seven's real potential as a plot device became lost in the wash.
