yeah, I bet any mexican director of movies nobody watch and only get funded with of government money considers himself better than those tow succesful guys.

Amores Perros was interesting, the next movies were the mos boring and pretentious shit ever made, but with birdman he changed the tone and made a good film. Revenant is fine.

Anything made by Cuaron is 10/10

2001 got mixed reviews because it was a confusing film

A Clockwork Orange was despised because of the violence

Barry Lyndon was almost ignored because it was a very slow methodical film like 2001

The Shining got mixed reviews because it wasn't like the book

Full Metal Jacket got pretty good reviews (although it is actually one of his weaker films)

Nobody could make heads or tails of Eyes Wide Shut when it was released, it didn't get positive reviews

For your consideration:

Sir Ridlet Scott

Gladiator
Hannibal
Black Hawk Down
Matchstick Men
Kingdom of Heaven
A Good Year
American Gangster
Body of Lies
Robin Hood
Prometheus
The Counselor
Exodus: Gods and Kings
The Martian

now there are obviously some hits and some big misses. Hard for me to call Prometheus or The Martian 'bad', I thought they were enjoyable until you started to think about them afterwards. Gladiator, Kingdom of Heaven and Black Hawk Down are some of my personal favourite movies. I just compare him to someone like PTA or the Coen Brothers where they have less movies I can say I liked. Even if There Will Be Blood or No Country for Old Men are better than any of Scott's movies from this century, I think the general consistency makes Ridley the best of the 21st century.

Matchstick Men
Kingdom of Heaven

American Gangster
Body of Lies
The Martian

Aww, is the redditor upset because his meme directors are being called out as the thieving frauds they are? Enjoy your devoid of any substance cookie cutter garbage flicks kiddo.

promoted as a cool drama with a hollywood star, that made people buy a ticket and ask for refunds massively across the world. If that's not a fail, I can't see what could be.

Everybody saw youn frankenstein, had a laugh and left the cinema with a smile on their faces. Better movie.

Look at the adorable redditor who can't refute my posts so as he sits there with tears streaming down his face in an impotent rage he just posts one of his meme reddit images and wishes he could downvote my posts. It's okay kiddo, I'm going to lay down in bed with my 10/10 gf in a few minutes then you can get back to living in your safe space hugbox circlejerk where you and the rest of the dumb plebs create a human centipede (also better than anything Malick has made in his entire career) of shitting your retarded opinions into eachother's mouths and never trying to actually see the reality of the garbage you consume on a daily basis.

Yeah I forgot him but his best film Peppermint Candy is in 1999

Malick is a hack, actors repeatedly noted that he's all about prolonged gloating over visuals in his films. He can't write dialogue or direct his actors for shit. He should make documentaries desu senpai

Outside of pure arthouse patrician wankery and some really minor short-film directors who are crazy talented, the best directors of this century:

>Tomas Alfredson
>Bong Joon Ho

He's pretty much the best entertainer in cinema today. He has the craft of creating an enjoyable movie which doesn't lack too much depth down to an absolute tee.

Like I said, I'm talking about hollywood or hollywood-tier directors. I could bang on about this swedish guy who's name I forgot who made a single short film called "Mousse" which is honestly one of the best-crafted pieces of filmmaking I've ever seen but nobody else here will have seen it or will know who he is, so it seems a bit pointless.

>>
>>65108750

>>
>>65104966
Scorsese needs to be higher.

Ridley Scott needs to be somewhere.

Soderberg needs to be higher.

Coens and Von Trier need their own "inconsistent as balls" tier

Cuaron needs to be lower

Gaspar Noe needs to be in Hacks Tier

Lynch is in an okay position if you're including pre-21st century work. If we're only talking about 21st century he needs to be lower.

Otherwise, excellent list, was expecting much worse from /tv/

>>
>>65108785
Fincher Nolan Cameron

>>
>>65104966

>>
>>65108843
Park's excellent when he tries, but Lady Vengeance was legit bad and Stoker was extremely weak at times. Bong is consistently great, and I'd rank that higher than inconsistently brilliant.
>>
>>65108814
>If we're only talking about 21st century he needs to be lower.
No.

21st Century Scorsese is the definition of alright.
>>
>>65108878
Yes. Save it and watch the entire filmography of pretty much everyone on there, and you'll have a really excellent knowledge of cinema.
