This fight scene never did anything for me as a kid but now after seeing it dozens of times it really is one of my all time favorite hero x villain confrontations of all time.
Not to stir the pot but the biggest disappointment for me with Episode 7 (although I liked it on the whole) was that final light saber fight between Kylo Ren and Rey. I don't mind her winning as she is the protagonist, but it just all seemed too easy for her. Yes, I know Kylo Ren is injured and all that but she's never been in a sword fight before let alone a light saber duel. She should have seemed way more out of her element and her attacks should have been wild and clumsy. Sheer grit, determination, and main-character-status would see her eek out a minor victory at the end before the land splits in half to separate them but before then it could be clear to us that she's just no match for Kylo Ren.
That's the way it was with Luke and Vader in this scene. Luke is all filled with confidence and righteous indignation, but he's still a novice. Look at how wide his swings are and how easily Vader deflects them. He gets in a few good shots here and there and Vader is occasionally caught off guard by Luke's tenacity, but ultimately he's fighting a losing battle.
