Really liked the original bits, but the nostalgia pandering, Rey's ability to do everything right Hux's laughable efforts to emulate space dictator, Phasma, and some of the dialogue makes this movie average at the very least

GoTG was far more interesting and much more original than Meme Wars Ep 1: The Memes Awaken. At least GoTG knew exactly what it was thanks to James Gunn's excellent direction. He knew he was making a family space adventure and he completely succeeded at that.
Me, my wife, and her boyfriend went to it with high expectations and were not disappointed :D A+ in my book!
Excellent film that strongly opens the next wave of Star Wars films. Most of /tv/s criticisms of it are just cynical people that think going against the grain makes them smarter. It's not flawless, but it is definitely up there with Empire Strikes Back. If they had gone for a more original plot as opposed to trying to make it reflect A New Hope, then it would without a doubt be the best film in the series. I'm very optimistic for the series.

It has as many plotholes as any movie with a broad storyline, and they can all be rationalized one way or another.
It made mistakes, but mediocrity of plot is part of what makes Star Wars Star Wars. Most of the people who decided it wasn't good were people who are still irrationally attached to the original trilogy. What I realized on the second viewing is that I just wasn't immersed on the first one. Feeling the difference in directorial style made it seem like an imitation, like some fan made shit. Once I got over the novelty and I was able to watch it as a real Star Wars movie and I enjoyed it so much more.
The original trilogy wasn't THAT good to begin with. Force Awakens wasn't better than a New Hope, but it was better than Revenge of the Jedi.

I think it was a great way to re-introduce the franchise and I enjoyed the characters and SFX's so much that I just don't care that the story was predictable. My rating is not final though, I will have to re-evaluate the movie in the context of the other two when they come out.

Finn had balls of steel even before he decided not to run off, he was willing to honor Poe's mission as far as getting BB8 to Leia and also tried to protect Rey until he realized she was fine on her own.
He also repeatedly fought stronger opponents with a weapon he had no clue how to use and managed to injure Kylo with it before getting knocked out. It was a weird thing for him to use as effeciently as he did, but if he was trained with the riot baton like TR8R was that might explain it, though a simple statement about that or his training would've cleared that up.
He did get his ass kicked both times though, and TR8R would've killed him if not for Han, as would have Kylo if not for Rey. It was mostly just the balls it took to do it at all that spoke of his character. Most people would run from either of those people.
The part where they had to kill the "Totally not death star" before it fired it's weapons at "The totally not rebel base on Yavin" was so fucking blatantly ripped off I laughed because it felt like a parody
