honestly it's fun to try and see the worth in all his films and argue about all his later ones have merit and interesting things to say or what the fuck ever, but the truth is that his first two were fucking great and nothing he's ever done since will be half as good
like everything else is OK and it all does have some worth and is full of ideas (although all stolen (homaged)) and passion and what have you, but nothing since reservoir dogs and pulp fiction has flowed naturally and seemed so 'right' and they all feel kinda formless and overdrawn, like he already used up everything good he had to say

The basterds are more evil than the nazis onscreen. Since we have been taught so much about the war through the media we immediately hate the Germans. The movie is also peppered with film references such as the tavern game, shoshannas face projected onto the smoke like wizard of Oz, the riefenstahl references, etc.

The movie got progressively worse as it went along.
Colonel Landa and the dairy farmer? Excellent scene.
"You get that for killin' Jews?" "Bravery." It was unintentionally a great scene, but the movie's still going good.
Shosanna being hit on by PFC Zoller? Meh. It picks up a little when Landa re-enters, but doesn't have that same intensity as before.
The tavern scene is another huge jump up in quality and the last really great scene of the movie. Arguably, it was the best part of the whole movie.
Pre-movie scenes are shit again with Pitt, Eli Roth and what's-his-face from the Office getting circles acted around them and looking really out of their depth.
Even Landa gets his weakest scene with the strangling thing. Then whatever weak grasp of historical accuracy is thrown out the window for cartoonish over the top revenge fulfillment fantasy.
And as a final fuck-you to the audience, they emasculate the clever villain right before the credits roll.
All good will built up was eventually washed away by the shit the movie devolved into.

It's just a ridiculous, glorified cartoon. It's not a "real story" or real movie. Just unmitigated fantasy/cartoon scenes strung together with a thin premise, story, and theme, while clumsily forcing quirky, cool characters, which work well in 1990s LA, into a historical setting that doesn't mesh well.
Most of his post-2000 movies qualify in this vein as well, especially Django.

I know it's a fiction film, and normally I'm tolerant of inaccuracies, but nonsense like that takes me out of the movie. And the bomb plot is not subjective. It's bad storytelling. When you have 2 groups of protagonists doing essentially the same plot, it removes all the tension. Even the Bear Jew going on his shooting spree was redundant because the bomb killed everyone anyway. It would have been better if there was 1 bomb, the bomb didn't work out, and then he went on his shooting spree.

Well it's an alternate history. The nazis are way more sympathetic and logistical shit like just how many armed guards Hitler had is a pretty small detail.
