I'd say BB is just mediocre. It's exactly the same show with the same arcs as Sons of Anarchy. A bit of a stretch to say bad, but not great.
All the best shows are US though. The Sopranos is pretty widely hailed, but I do find I hate too many characters. Overall it's a good show, just often frustrating to watch. Definitely gets better as it goes on.
The Wire and Mad Men are my two favourite shows. Highly recommend them to anyone.

Viewers have a sense of being in the moment, as being part of a big event unfolding. This and ensemble acting are why these shows are praised.
