Meme Max: Reddit Road
What the hell is this one?
I honestly believe Mad Max was so many orders of magnitude better than anything else released last year because it was a product of a bygone, pre-digital preproduction era of filmmaking.
Nowadays this would all be done by talentless cunts like Maciej Kuciara and Shaddy Safadi, Frankensteined together out of 3D programs, Photoshop, photobashing, phototextures, etc until the end result looked like a particularly drab and uninspiring photograph.

This would have been really cool.

I'm pretty sure it's O- in the movie
must be a fuck-up
>>65027701
Doesn't matter because you can't just transfer blood from one person to another like that anyway. George Miller is a doctor, he knows this shit. He just doesn't care.
>>65027777
Checked.
Both quads and correct info.
>>65026042
would have been cool if we saw some ruined settlements for sure, i never bought the idea of an endless desert... even if i know australia is huge
>>65027855
I'm not sure but I think the endless salt was supposed to be the Pacific.
This shit is amazing. I know /tv/ talks shit about Fury Road. But the artistic work that went in too this movie is fantastic.
I hope it wins a couple of oscars, I think the costume, production, editors deserve them. I even hope George wins best director, because he did what I most old film makers fail to do now.
>>65027914
Fury Road was fantastic, /tv/ just likes to hate on it because a. it likes to be contrarian and b. muh feminism
>>65027838
You wanted to say witnessed
>>65027914
It will win the most awards all up this year IMO. Will dominate technical and I think George will get it because they'll want to give it something major, he did an awesome job, it was a labor of love over many years and they won't want to give Inarritu two statues back to back.
>>65027958
Thank you, I am mediocre tonight.

Everyone liked Fury Road.
huh same artist who did Freakwave.

You are correct.

wish the movie had been set in melbourne
>>65027946
Jeah it was by far my favourite movie of 2015. I went in with huge expectations(becsuse I love Mad Max and the trailer got me so hyped). And it lived up, and went beyond my expectations.
I got goosebumbs, even cried during some scenes, because I was so invested in the movie. Something only older pixar movies(and babe) used to do to me..
Great job miller!

all the chases and explosions, everything involving driving was all practical effects

>“We were going to do [‘Furiosa’ as] an anime before [Fury Road] was delayed a second time when we were rained out of Australia. But because we were delayed that didn’t happen, and so we’ve got that script, and we’ve got another one.”
>"The anime is an opportunity for me to shift a little bit about what anime is doing because anime is ripe for an adjustment or sea change. It’s coming in games and I believe it’s the same in anime. There’s going to be a hybrid anime where it shifts more towards Western sensibilities. [Japanese filmmaker Akira] Kurosawa was able to bridge that gap between the Japanese sensibilities and the West and make those definitive films."
>Some designs for the film were done by Mahiro Maeda, the anime designer behind Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo, and who worked on designs for Evangelion and contributed animation to Nausicaa, Castle in the Sky, and Porco Rosso. Reportedly, these Mad Max designs ended up incorporated as inspiration for Fury Road.
Damn.
>>65031284
Kind of, yeah. When you see shots with a lot of vehicles many times most of the cars further back are composited in, particularly if there's stunt work or explosions. Similarly a lot of the sandstorm scene was cgi, for obvious reasons.
While it was a lot of practical effects theres a lot of green screen work
>>65031484
fair enough anon, it was a good merger of the new and old styles
>>65028201
Holy fuck that would've been sick
>>65026316
Believe it or not, that blue stuff is supposed to be detergent. I was looking at the concept book and it said this. Fucking weird.
>>65031595
Yeah if anything I think it deserves more praise for that. Knowing when to use practical and when to use CGI is incredibly important. Fuck it up and cohesion goes out of the window, pulling you out of the movie, Miller almost completely succeeded in that regard as far as I'm concerned and it's a big part of what makes such a seemingly ridiculous movie work.
>>65031644
>detergent
what for? like sunblock or?
>>65031699
I think the real practical effects gave the CG animators examples to work from to make the effects they did end up producing fit in with a human's natural sense of what is real or not.
>>65031699
>almost
what made you say that? i mean some things like the extreme blue and orange filters kind of fucking sucked and if a fad i wish would stop in holywood
everything is really blue and orange in every fucking blockbuster now
>>65031784
Oh for sure, you're not working from concept art which gives you a little freedom, you have the literal car in front of you to copy 1:1, you can photograph it for textures, you can see the way it interacts physically and even take readings so your physics model is as close as possible. I think CGI that is an extension of something physical sits within the realm of believability far more easily than something that is made from scratch, providing you avoid the uncanny valley.
>>65031827
There would a couple of bits at the citadel and in the sandstorm that didn't quite gel for me. That's completely personal preference though and I'm talking about maybe 30 seconds of the movie where the effects stood out noticably. Pic related for example.
Based Brendan McArthy
>>65031972
some of the sandstorm bits did look like a sam jackson flick

>that exposed rear axle and drivetrain
Def my favorite movie in a long time. I went to see this at least 8 times, each time noticed something new, that being a detail in the wives room or a little personality trait for some character. It rewards multiples views.
I remember the first time I saw it after the first chase scene finishes and Nux cars explodes and Max is BTFO the music and the screens fades and whe FINALLY get a break from all this chaos someone on the theater went "whew". As if the movie was holding their breath for that long.
Amazing stuff, I'm happy I got to experience this
Post more artwork pls
>>65027701
O+ is the most common blood type though so still valuable.
O- can be put in anyone but you'd want to save it for people with really niche bloodtypes who'd have a hard time finding a donor otherwise.

>>65031699
that's one of the reasons the cgi in Jurassic park and the lost world looked so good in comparison to world, they had puppets and robots and only used cgi when they had to, and mostly at night shots so it wouldn't stand out so much
>>65033534
>TLW CGI
>good
you haven't seen it in a long while, have ya?
>>65030967
Yeah. The key is to weave the CGI in with practical and make sure it doesn't stick out like a sore thumb. Too often you have idiot filmmakers who just use CGI to throw tons of shit on the screen.
To quote a once smart filmmaker, "A special effect without a story is a pretty boring thing."
After seeing the video about the mess that was The Hobbit set and this thread. I think that it really proves that pre production is fucking important when making movies of such scale, that's just crazy and impressive to see that most details were planned well ahead. That may be why many big scify or fantasy movies are not so amazing to look at nowadays.
>>65033614
I think he made a typo.
Thanks for the dump op. saved a bunch of stuff.
I wish there was scans of this book.
>>65033719
I think the problem with The Hobbit was the director change.
>>65033614

Mad props for Jackson for still pulling in through and making the films. I know a lot of people shit on him for The Hobbit films being shit, but it wasn't really his fault. He did the best he could with what he was given.
The Soundtrack was amazing too
>>65026002
Does anyone know how much the script changed from 97? Was it the same story?
>>65034632
If you're asking if it was muh stronk empowered womyn pre-SJW times, yes, it was meant to be Furiosa's story from the very beginning.
>>65028002
dude, that looks fucking nice
>Not old man Mel Max
>>65034740
Actually no that wasn't what I was asking but thanks.
>>65026840
You and your likes are what's wrong with /tv/
>>65034809
Fuck Mel, it's partially his fault the fourth one took 30 years to make. I'm glad George given up on waiting for him.
>>65033614
TLW and JP III had better CG than the first movie.
>>65035066
dude, words hurt

>>65035202
lmao yes that is exactly what i meant, thanks anon
wow i am tired
>>65035066
They really didn't.
It was also TLW that introduced that shitty over-exaggerated bird/lizard CGI walk for the rexes. She moved like (something that gives the impression of) a real animal in the first one.
>>65029200
Those wing mirrors are fucking great, you'd never be able to sneak up on him.
Watching all this makes me feel terrible that the final product was ruined and turned out to be such shit.
Not because of the execution, but because of the shit script.

THE TOUCH OF GOD
>>65026494
this man speaks the truth
>>65035683
Fury Road was goat mate
>>65035683
Agreed. It was a visual spectacle and the acting from Tom and Hugh were terrific. The PTSD Max was on par with Gibson's Max. But the script, the Eve Ensler mess and all that, ruined the infinite potential this movie had.
>>65035683
>>65035949
speaking strictly from a visual POV, it was the best movie of the past 2 decades
you have to shut off your brain to enjoy the plot and that's never a good thing
escapism is good and all but you might aswell make a youtube video if you want visuals with no substance
>>65035683
How was the game? Critics said it was mediocre, but fuck them. Was it really that bland?
>>65032789
Would have been cash.
Fury Road is still a masterpiece though.
>>65036231
It's really repetitive like most open world games, but it's pretty decent.
>>65036322
repeating numbers speak logically
>>65036231
I love it, especially the fighting is amazing
>>65036231
Top tier. The critics shat on it because Konami or Kojima or whatever paid them. They treated them with 5 star hotel and meals for like 2 weeks so they would review MG5 well and shit on games like Mad Max. It worked.
Buy the game if you can, it's fucking great.
>>65026002
Fury Road was racist, no black people
>>65037539

>>65038354

>>65035949
>shit script
The script was simple, sure, but how was it shit?
>>65034632
>Does anyone know how much the script changed from 97? Was it the same story?
Same story, but they changed the ending.
Max was supposed to be older since it was Mel, and he was supposed to go up at the end with Furiosa, but Miller thought a younger Max needed another didn't earn closure, so he remains a wanderer
They didn't work with a script, only storyboards
>>65027914
/tv/ liked it when it first came out, I remember having some good hype threads.
