I think it's just I was already burnt out on bullet time slow-motion CGI by the time 300 came out, and slow-motion seemed to resurge some when that movie came out. But 300 is a case of using it well. Live Free or Die Hard (unrated) is a "fuck you, I liked it" movie for me
I never understood why so many people dislike it. They put it on par with Die Hard 5. Die Hard 2 and 3 were fucking shit. The only thing people bitch about is that the scales got pushed further, and why is that a problem? It's the obvious progression of the sequels. First one was in a building. Second was was in an airport. Third one was across a city. And this one is across several states.
Everything about it was great. A good villain, they immediately know who John Mcclane, fuck with him, he gets progressively hurt and fucked and the movie even expands on how this hero business just fucked with him and nothing good came out of it.
Hell, the 5th Die Hard was originally the idea for Die Hard 4, have Bruce with his son, but they changed it because they wanted a girl to kick ass or something.
And the president montage is pretty chilling too.
