There were some truly touching scenes in this. I think what hurt most was the tone was so abruptly different - going from a comedy/gangster to kidnapping/sadcore in 15 minutes was jarring.

As silly and dumb as they can be sometimes, I like Roland Emmerich's movies. 2012 in particular is the disaster movie to end all disaster movies and it's just hilariously fun to watch the characters survive tons of things over and over again when they really shouldn't have.
>>

People either seem to love Goblet or hate it. Personally it's my favorite, as it's the first time Harry has to deal with 'real' teenage problems like alienation, getting a date, fighting with friends, etc., and it's also the movie where things turn actually dark, the ending capping off the growing sense of danger throughout.

Critics were expecting family values nigger style, they got existential robots and Die Antwoord ending in Robocop-level violence. Visuals makes up for the disjointed story. 7/10 would get drunk and watch again.

Elysium suffered from the same thing, great visuals and characters not fitting into a straightforward story framework. Imagine an airhead with a great ass, you want to kill the bitch but the ass game too good for that so you just feel conflicted.

sucker punch is snyders best movie and a slightly mis-executed near masterpiece.

problem is, too many moving parts and too much potential in a ton of different areas to turn off different audiences.. and one of the biggest remainders is the dude bros who just like action set pieces and half naked girls who don't know that the movie is mocking them to their face. the funnier thing is how complicated it is and how many other targets it criticizes. very timely too, with this ever-louder but not necessarily smarter feminist aspect in our society.

truly the starship troopers of our time.

Saw Jupiter Ascending, thought it was a solid sci-fi action movie with cool shoes. Looked up the reviews and saw people shitting on it something fierce. Did not understand that.
>>
>>65020003
That scientist who fucked over the black scientist makes the movie. He's going to die and STILL keeps up his bullshit, not many movies show people this fucked in character. Sunshine is just a different version of this movie with better cinematography.

Derivative and fell short of the directors' pedigree. I went in either high or really drunk, don't remember which, at the local $2 theater and drowsed throughout the whole thing. Best thing was the Redmayne guy cause he had Presense.
>>
>>65021103
It had a lot of really cool ideas but it was fucking stupid. I knew it was bad in the first 10min when "random Russian soviet troops appear and kill the father for his fucking telescope". Redmayne and bean were fun and I honk that's the problem, the two main characters themselves were terrible with no chemistry

This is just another thing that worked because it was meant to be a graphic novel in motion.

Those slo-motion shots may feel unnecessary but I think they're crucial to the style when adapting the panels of a comic book into film

Its really the one thing Snyder is good at

>also the director's cut of pic related is my "fuck you i liked it"

This movie is what started the "Movement 2 of Beethoven's Seventh Symphony is really dark and edgy, so let's use it constantly in movies whenever the character arc reaches the lowest point in the plot, even if out movie's tone is completely inappropriate to use this musical piece in" shit that totally ruined a good deal of Beethoven's works for me. Fuck the Knowing, it was a shit movie with an overused character arc and an entirely predictable plot as well. The moment they started playing Beethoven's edgiest hits, it became pretty clear there was going to be an unhappy ending.

I think it's just I was already burnt out on bullet time slow-motion CGI by the time 300 came out, and slow-motion seemed to resurge some when that movie came out. But 300 is a case of using it well. It really annoyed me in the first season of Spartacus too, but that show is so good overall that I kinda got used to it.

And yeah I actually liked Watchmen too. I have the "Ultimate Cut" downloaded but I haven't watched it yet.

And a slightly less retarded plot, at least until they switched directors or something and decided Sunshine was going to be a slasher. Seriously man, what the fuck. You couldn't have found a better way to incorporate Pinbacker BESIDES having him stab the (already dying) crew to death? Thank god the final act really rescued the film, best last ten minutes of a movie I've ever seen.

>Love, Actually is like 13th Warrior

What?
>>
>>65020905

I'd give it a solid 7/10 as well. Some stuff that did kill it for me was
>Hugh Hackman strolling out of the factory alone...at 3am....within milliseconds of the factory having shut down/fucked the city's police. He just strolled on out to get some fookin tea waving to everyone no one suspected a thing....

I didn't like it- I think the main character was forgettable and the villain was actually more badass and just overall more memorable

>>65021463
I'm not saying it was perfect. Vickers was set up to be a great character and was absolutely wasted.
>>

Eva Green held up the movie.
Lena Headley fucked up. She went full Queen Cercei in Rise, and it was painful to watch.
She played the role with a certain grace in the first movie that was starkly absent in this one.

You'd be amazed at how many professional reviewers actually attacked clichéd dialogue and plot, like McTiernan wasn't lampooning those very clichés.

Die hard 4.jpg

I never understood why so many people dislike it. They put it on par with Die Hard 5. Die Hard 2 and 3 were fucking shit. The only thing people bitch about is that the scales got pushed further, and why is that a problem? It's the obvious progression of the sequels. First one was in a building. Second was was in an airport. Third one was across a city. And this one is across several states.
Everything about it was great. A good villain, they immediately know who John Mcclane, fuck with him, he gets progressively hurt and fucked and the movie even expands on how this hero business just fucked with him and nothing good came out of it.
Hell, the 5th Die Hard was originally the idea for Die Hard 4, have Bruce with his son, but they changed it because they wanted a girl to kick ass or something.

And the president montage is pretty chilling too.

Also, the FBI know who John is because they recognize he's a goddamn hero. It's like they know who he is and how famous he is for the shit he's done, another complain people have of Die Hard 5, of how come the Russians don't know who John is.
