im shocked it hasn't been done yet. shocked. that post was half joking half serious, but if we wanted to be serious we could get it done for 80-120mil, tie certain big names to the main roles (probably boone, chalmers, toitovna) and get more obscure actors in most of the others, market it properly, guarantee it still takes 200+.
my only real fear is they butcher it.. it does have complexities that don't translate easily to film and the potential for a dune-tier disaster.
i think no one really wants to take the challenge and maybe even if someone did, the studios would be wary of supporting it with the budget it would need, and for good reason. oh well, we'll see

It would require a sense of tact and a deftness of touch, especially to deal with many of the supernatural elements without making it seem like a corny Clash of the Titans ripoff. At the very least I have absolute confidence in Sean Bean's competence in reprising the central character and basically carrying the entire movie with his charisma.
