Went to it yesterday with a few friends while I liked it one of my friends remarked about they why didn't they kill the bounty hunter when he entered the cabin. Even if a gunfight broke out afterwards they would have a pretty fortified place to shoot major nigger and ob from.
>>
I saw the Revenant and the Hateful Eight today, spent like 6 hours at the cinema.

I thought h8ful 8 was really good desu, it thrived on dialogue which was actually really good and funny inb4 MUH BIG BLACK DINGUS

the revenant on the other hand was tedious to watch, the beginning and the end were good but everything in between was boring and pretentious as shit, I can't believe I thought Birdman was shit because it's actually a decent movie in comparison

also Leo's acting consisted of grunting and crawling through the snow for like 70% of the movie, BRAVO

>>64967260
Didnt want to risk him not dying and then shooting Daisy.

Ruth was a paranoid fuck. If he could he would take Daisy with him since he immediately senses that something isnt right and someone there is wanting to spring Daisy
>>
>>64967565
I loved that as well. Mannix was a great character.
>>

He couldnt really tell where they both were from under the floor. He was hoping that the others would make use of the distraction and deal with them.

>>
Part 1 did a fantastic job building tension. I haven't felt that way about a movie for a long time.
However, the unwinding of that tension wasn't as good as the build-up, so part 2 was a bit disappointing.
The ending scene was great though >>64967565

8/10
>>
>>64967302
GTFO, tumblr
>>
The 4th chapter was bad.
It was clunky and probably placed at the end of the intermission so as not to break the flow of the movie too much, but
there was no need to let the audience know the coffee was poisoned. There was no need to narrate the start of the scene. That's just lazy. They could still show Daisy looking at Ruth and OB to suggest that she knows something is about to happen and it would do a lot better job at building up tension.
The coffee being poisoned needed to be worked in much smoother (because the fact that Daisy didn't tell Mannix that the coffee was poisoned even though she saw it is needed later in the film)
Then the flashback seen was a bit unnecessary, seeing as we already know what happens. I get that it is sort of interesting to see how they managed to gain control of the haberdashery, but did it really need to be that drawn out, especially since we already know how it ends?
TL:DR: In the 70mm version, the movie starts to get a bit clunky and it falls off the rails a bit after the intermission. But other than that it is pretty good.
>>
>>64967968
I think this is pretty accurate for me, though at no point did I feel bored, a pretty amazing feat for such a long movie. Each of the characters was acted well and I thought it very cool how every one had their own personality that we could identify, something hard to do with so many people (I think 9?) I assumed that was one of Quentin's inconsistency things he does, like how guns were placed in different hands and positions in between cuts.
>>
I liked it, but Quentin is so fucking self-indulgent. He didn't have to turn it into a murderfest, but he can't help himself. I enjoyed most of the characters and performances very much. It was well shot and beautiful to look at and listen to. It was like a solid 7.

why did oswald ask mannix about the lincoln letter? his hangman character had no reason to want to see it, and it doesn't do anything to further the plan to free daisy.
>>
I liked this film a lot. Excellent use of 70mm, being able to see almost the entire cabin interior in some shit, best soundtrack of 2015 if not the past decade, top tier dialogue, and great characters.

However...
I felt like Tarantino was setting up this "Clue" style plot, and I was really enjoying trying to figure out what was going on -- only for them to end up killing each other all at once, completely leaving the audience feeling like "welp, I guess the movie can just fuckin end now."

But I felt the good outweighed the bad.

I liked it a lot. I was a bit disappointed that by Chapter 5, it's revealed that Gage, Oswaldo and Bob were just gang members. At first, you think that each character has their own story, but By the end of Chapter 4, into the end of the film, a lot of the mystery that made the film so intriguing to watch gets wiped away, giving way to a gorefest. Don't get me wrong, the gorefest was also fun, but it just was a bit of a disappointing third act.

Depend, how were the past screenings? I went to see the Roadshow at the only screening in my city, and the projector broke down beforehand but we weren't told until the end of the movie when a guy came up at the credits and was like "Guess what, it was shown on digital - WALA!". The worst part was I wouldn't have known it was digital hadn't I been told, since I'd never seen 70mm before (and still haven't).
>>
>>64970948
Half the people in my theater gasped while the other half laughed. Seemed people didn't know how to react to most of the film. Like when people Tarantino started narrating, nobody laughed at first, but then a couple people, myself included, realized it was Tarantino himself narration, and we started sniggering. This caused everyone to start laughing helpless, just laughing with no idea what they were laughing at. Kinda pathetic the way group mentality works, and it always ruins cinema experiences for me.
>>
Quentins 10th and final film which should come out in 2021 will have a live shot of a big black Dingus. Hes been slowly working it up on his last few movies. First the interracial couple in basterds, then the naked barebacked black dudes in django, and now Samuel L Jackson getting blown by a pasty ass honky.

Screencap this
>>
>>64967565
They became bros over the hanging of a woman. This is Tarantino's way of saying that the death of feminism will solve racial issues
>>
>>64971015
Dunno about past screenings, but it's a single-screen theatre that's very lovingly cared for and specializes on varied programming (classic and recent films, but not arthouse which is kewl), often projecting 35mm copies, or even 70mm such as Interstellar, so I highly doubt that there will be any problems with projection, and they'd never put on a digital projection instead of 70mm, they've been getting lots of media coverage because it's the only cinema in the country showing H8 in 70mm*.

>going to watch 70mm and getting digital
did you ask for your money back? I'd have murdered that guy if they'd cheated me out of muh UP-70. It's possible that this is the only time we'll ever see UltraPanavision 70 projected as such.

*Actually, today I read that they asked the distributors for the UltraPanavision lens, and it turned out to not be suited for the cinema, since apparently those lenses are specific for a projector to screen distance. Instead they somehow dug up an old UltraPanavision projection lens from the 60's which did the trick.

>did you ask for your money back?
No, I didn't want to make myself stand out as a single, but they handed out free popcorn vouchers to everyone.

Narration is not a common trait of classic westerns, but the presence of narration in a film to begin with is either a sign of poor direction or trust in the writer to pull it off. Good Fellas is an excellent example of a film that pulls off narration. Hateful Eight does a good-enough job of using it, if not uneven due to its random use throughout the movie.

Well no, it's necessary for the same reason the opening scene of "Pulp Fiction" is necessary. If they just leap up and rob the coffee shop, that's much different than the building tension that gets use there.

Without all that comes before it, the ending of DP is meaningless. Those ladies need something to avenge.

>>
>>64966419
Thought it was pretty good, though it dragged in a few spots in the middle third (when they're at the cabin but before the bodies stop dropping).

My complaints other than that?

The Joe guy was the least fucking interesting character, flat as fuck. Which is a shame because he had a lot of potential, movie would have been better if he turned out to be a marshal or something.

The sheriff was funny, but two-dimensional as fuck.

The forced blowjob shit really killed my liking of Jackson's character until the end, even if he was making shit up. At that point, the Southern general's stopped being a dick to him, and he just goes and antagonizes him anyways. Whole thing could have been done better.

You didn't need the blowjob to make him seem like a bad person, and if you were going for comedy with it, the general should have kept being an asshole, which he wasn't.

Not to mention I doubt anyone back was cool with gay shit, even black people.

Lastly, they used the word nigger way too fucking much. Wore out the joke for the most part. They either could have saved it for punchlines specifically or, a better idea, they could have kept switching up racist terms (think coon, monkey, etc). Would have kept it fresh, especially if they went overboard with it.

Still glad I saw it, he's definitely done worse.

Shame it bombed at the box office, but he picked a shitty time to release it and the 3 HOURS (and it feels like 3 hours) probably made theaters do less showings in favour of TFA (which ironically was pretty desolate when I saw it, but the theater for this was packed).

See it in 70mm if you can. /blog
>>
>>64967569
Nah, that smacking got laughter in my theater too.

The Hangman was by far the biggest good guy besides the driver, and the movie supports that.

>Being a racist doesn't mean you can't be a decent person

I thought this and I was really hoping that would be the case, more fucking movies need to be like this. Still happy with what we got, and I agree that the good outweighed the bad.

Would have been better, honestly. He brought nothing to the fucking table otherwise.

>>64968826
I thought the same. I was hoping they were all working together with each of them having different motivations, but I guess if they'd done that, the movie would have been even longer than it already was.

Yeah, I agree, the reveal was a big disappointment. Like the other anon who replied I thought the motivations of the gang were going to be more complicated but cooperating for a common goal . Instead it's just the rescue daisy crew.
I think I was hoping that one of them was rescuing Daisy and the others were after something totally unexpected. Somebody trying to rescue daisy was expected from start of film.

Its alright. I didnt need the whole 70 mm bullshit if you are shooting an entire film in a cabin. There was nothing that made you think ''this can only be made as a film'' and I thought it would have been better as a play.

The actors are good, most characters are nice aswell, music is okay. Long, but the pacing isnt distrastrous.

It has the same excess that QT use like too much violence and too much swearing like a kid.

inb4 you start calling me underage and no. Swearing and using violence in excess is a kiddish thing to amuse teenagers and manchildren not adults.

6/10, better than Django
>>
I went and saw the film in 70mm yesterday and it was great. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Someone in the audience did however have a problem with it and yelled out at the top of his lungs to the packed theater "HOLLYWOOD PROPAGANDA" during the scene where Sam Jackson is baiting Bruce Dern into picking up the gun. It was too much for him. A minute later he yelled "FANDME KLAMT. ULÆKKERT" (Fucking disgusting. Gross) and he loudly stormed out of the theater with his friend.

I'm not even joking. This actually happened at the 20:00 showing on the 16 Jan. at Imperial Theater in Copenhagen. Hilarious.

One of Tarantino's better projects. Anyone else think Inglorious was one of his weaker films?
>>
>>64989097
I actually like it much more than Django and Kill Bill.
>>
>>64989097

I'm an 80's kid, so I grew up with Tarantino. Even so, I think his latest three films, Inglorious Basterds, Django and this, are his three best. They mark a divergence from style over previous films - focusing way more on suspense than thrills, styles and jokes.

I'd rate Kill Bill as his worst. I just don't like the first one that much. The second one I seem to remember being better. I think all that talk about them being "one film" is just crap - they're very different stylistically.

Reservoir Dogs is really great too. I'd probably like Pulp Fiction more if it wasn't for the fact that it's the one Tarantino film I've seen the most. Jackie Brown and Death Proof are good too... I guess they're all good.

Am I the only one who thought the OST wasn't that great? I mean I liked the themes but I thought it wasn't that much music in the whole movie. I don't know.

It was used sparingly, and twice they used music from The Thing (also by Ennio Morricone). But still, based score.

I only think there's only like 3 original cue too. As I said, there isn't a lot of music in it.

Saw the road show today.

Walton Goggins legitimately gave an awards tier performance. Was a solid 6/10. Lots of filler will make it hard to enjoy repeat viewings.

It looked beautiful and the presentation was fantastic and reminds me of how badly we get ripped off going to the cinema now.
>>
>>64990272

Oh, and I didn't like how aftet the intermission it became a dragged out shoot em up. I was expecting something a little more clever. The flashback in particular just felt needlessly protracted. Them riding up to the cabin was a solid 5 minutes.

I liked that Mannix made a decision based on character, but a twist regarding his status as the Sheriff and knowing Daisy was lying as a result would have been more interesting.
>>
>>64989441

I really liked it.

Being Australian I enjoyed when Daisy's folk song came on.

How is the shorter non intermission version different? Do they just not have the recap?

I hate this.

I can see why too.

But it's his best script alongside True Romance, and how the studio forced him to butcher it really sucks.

Anything other than Death Proof as his worst...
>>
>>64990440

Sydney. Saw it today at George Street Event Cinemas.
>>
>>64990458
True Romance is better off for not having Tarantino as director. If anything the scripted dialogue is the weakest aspect. Death Proof is one of his best and if you cant recognize that you are worse than pleb.
>>
>>64990606

Why is it one of his best. It's got an ugly structure and contains scenes of endless filler dialogue. And no, it's not authentic to films of that niche.
>>

Wait, during the entire film I kept trying to count the characters. Weren't there 9, including the chick and driver but not the dude in the basement?

Channing Tatum
Mexican
Sam Jackson
R.J. MacReady
Daisy
Lie Detector
Goggins
DRIVER
Bill's Brother
Laura Dern's dad

>>
I loved it. The only problem I had with it is I never believe Channing Tatum in any role he's in except Jump Street and that included Foxcatcher.
>>
>>64990682
The narrative is authentic, the production top notch, and the performances have nuance. Death Proof is the perfect homage movie and has more integrity and ambition for a Tarantino flick than any of his others, besides maybe Reservoir Dogs. The dialogue is typical of Tarantino, but his vision is sincere. Its always underrated by reddit tier plebes who cant deal with an unusual act structure or cant see the subtlety behind the superficial.
>>
You know what I missed from the movie?

The movie was about hatred among eight people, why the gang members had such a great relationship, I think it would be awsome if they had a fucked up friendship and betrayed each other at some point.
>>
>>64966419
Marathoned the whole thing. Boring as fuck.
>>
>>64966419
Best tarantino
>>
>>64968271
Tarantino obviously knew that the most obvious way to do it would be to either pan to the coffee pot and show someone pouring poison in or cut to Daisy looking at something other than Maj Warren. Tarantula probably opted to do the narration because its something few films do and probably because he wants us to be thinking about who poisoned the coffee pot rather than what Daisy was distracted by. Didn't bother me that much and ill take it over an awful cameo from Tarantino, I bet originally he was going to play the australian tour guide.

How can you "marathon" one film?

I didn't get why the bounty hunter who captured the woman thought someone in the cabin was on her side and going to kill everyone. How the fuck did he come up with it? Seemed abrupt
>>
Is there any reason why the poster is Darth Vader's light saber? I thought Disney fucked QT up?
>>
>>64991103

I kinda agree with this. I this is what keeps me from giving it top points. The ending was just a little bit to "simple". It turns out they were all bad. Ok.

It's like that Agatha Christie story when it turns out they were all killers. What the fuck.

and I didn't really get the point of shooting on 70mm if most of the movie is dialogue in a cabin
