Damiel turning mortal was the end of the plot but not the story
and it definitely isn't meant to be taken as the coda of the film.
Use some critical thinking next time you evaluate a classic work, plebeian.

so do I, which is why I didn't write a synopsis, I detailed the format of the movie so that people know the structure of the film I'm about to tear apart
you should read my other reviews. I stray far from the "synopsis + opinion" format most people use
you can ignore my brief ones, those are mostly comments to accompany a rating that I feel deserve some kind of explanation

He had practically two CGI creatures to work with (and Groot/Vin Diesel was wearing motion capture suit, leg stilts and then got stuffed up with CGI) and he manages to make everything flow naturally in a scene.

and hell, one of the actors is show wrestler that I have never seen in any other film, Dave Batista (he is in Spectre now) and even he, is impressive in his role.

I mean unless everyone of them is naturally gifted as fuck which would mean I am wrong (I don't close that option out) Gunn did something amazing with them. That's basically what I rated there with the three stars.

I also fell in love with set design and design of objects/items around the world. So much interesting stuff to look at, but I wish the movie had more time with them. I wasn't annoyed by its length, it was well paced (and directed) and felt just long enough and maybe could've gone for bit longer..

i am forgiving it a lot, what can I say? I am naive person.

i really hope gotg2 will be longer.

Hulu for Criterion, Netflix for random shit (it's gotten a lot worse outside of TV shows over the past few years though), and Amazon Plus for shipping since their movie selection is literal dogpuke. I'll use shit like putlocker, tubeplus, viooz, or even youtube as long as they're 720p - if it's a good movie, there's no harm in watching it in better quality later. I'll only torrent hard-to-find shit, which with the above is almost nothing, or for better-quality stuff that hasn't gotten a BR transfer yet.

why don't directors do collaborations

painters do
musicians do
>>
>>64967727
A collaboration happens to be one of the best movies I've ever seen.
>>
>>64967834
i guess i have to see that movie now

is it a collaboration in true sense, and not jsut director1 part1 and director2 part2?
>>
>>64967727
If I remember correctly at some point in Tarkovsky's Time Within Time book, he mentions writing a letter to Bergman and asking if he'd be interested in doing a collab with him and possibly Kurosawa and others.
>>
>>64967941
The conceit is that Lars provides the rules and directs the bookends while Leth directs the actual "obstructions," but I don't know how much collaboration bleeds through. If you're actually looking for 'co-directing' films, Lord & Miller, the Coens, and the Russos are the only ones that currently come to mind. I think the DGA discourages or outright prohibits dual directing credit on films.
>>
>>64968180
Isn't Offret basically Tarkovksy playing Bergman, nearly a collaboration in that sense?
>>
>>64968266
Bergman wishes he could make a masterpiece like Offret.

Tarkovsky wouldn't even be making films if it wasn't for Bergman, so the point is moot.

you're making apocalypse now look bad
pro tip: guy ritchie is a genuine 100% piece of garbage. all of his movies are bad
tarantino isn't as bad as people say but he is by definition entry level since his films are just copies/mishmashes of better films
fight club is one of Finchers worst films even though it's a great dark comedy. Shouldn't anywhere near someones top 10 though unless all they value is edginess and dark humor, aka reddit fedora the person
the patrician dark humor film would be 4 lions, in bruges, harold and maude, big lebowski, etc.

This guy gets it. The only logical way to rate a movie.

that's not the problem. The problem is what causes you to enjoy a film. If quality filmmaking and artistic integrity don't factor into what makes a film enjoyable for you and you instead choose to decide it on other factors such as aesthetics, shitty humor, self insert characters, and literally explosions then your opinions aren't worth a lot to people who care about opinions. and if all you have to back it up is "yeah well I liked it so there's no way to prove me wrong" then you're probably just a tasteless idiot
i mean some people are tasteless and some people are idiots. thats just the way the world works.

As I said in the review, The 39 Steps, which cover a lot of the same ground, was better

You're right famalam.

>>64978540
I loved The 39 Steps but is Saboteur really THAT bad?
>>
>>64976844
Everything after Snatch is pretty mediocre from Guy Ritchie, but I loved both Snatch and Lock Stock.

I think I enjoyed Zodiac more than Fight Club. I haven't updated my favorite movies in a long time.

In Bruges was alright, but it felt like I was watching a TV show. The acting was pretty obnoxious and there was something off about the cinematography.

>>64978078
I just find it stupid when film nerds gush over a film because of some gimmick or how amazing the cinematography is. Everything should come together to form an experience for the viewer, and people should rate movies based on what they got out of the movie, not what camera techniques and setting the director chose to use.

Example:
Her: movie was visually beautiful and had an amazing aesthetic but the story was awkward/cheesy/reddit and I wasn't entertained/moved by it so I couldn't give it more than 3.5/5. I hear people on letterboxd ejaculating about this movie, giving it 5 stars but they rarely touch on the story itself.

>>64978668
Saboteur is passable, has some decent spots. About the same level as Torn Curtain. Not shit, but dull and I expected more.

What do you think about Suspicion?
>>
>>64978731

I think the worst example is when people rate five stars just because the movie is a classic without even commenting on the qualities of the movie.

The ending really hurt the film. It's a 2.5-3 out of 5 depending on my mood.

>The ending really hurt the film
Yeah and I read that sadly Hitchcock was forced to end his films with a happy ending. Pic related's pissed me off.
>>
>>64978731
That's the thing though. The cinematography moved people and combined with the sound and art design it helped people feel more moved by the story. People don't think the way you're imagining they do.
>>
>>64979451
I constantly read letterboxd reviews where people write a paragraph about how much of a genius x director is with his beautiful camera angles but they don't say a word regarding any other aspect of the movie. It sounds to me like they want people to think they understand the film on a deeper level than everyone else or have some "industry knowledge" that enables them to set apart one film from another.

Maybe I'm generalizing too much but that's the vibe i get from all of the "popular reviews" on lots of films.
