I actually only started recently reading the series and got bored about 2/3rds of the way into the fourth book because I don't give a flying fuck about Roland's stupid love story where all characterization and reasoning for an inevitably tragic romance is "IT'S JUST KA," but it's disappointing to see a black actor, as cool as he is, shoehorned into a role for the sake of controversy/diversity.
It really won't make any sense if they get to the second book's material where one of the series' main characters (as far as I read anyway) has an entire arc of distrust and conflict as a result of a her being black and Roland and Eddie being white.
