What are the best horror movies?
Lake Mungo
Tomahawk Bone
is the ring good?
Posting this in every horror thread I come across.
The best horror is always whatever is realistic and could actually happen. Also, this movie is just devastating.

can't find a stream or torrent for it though

You people really need to see Berberian Sound Studio already. Best horror movie I've seen in years.
>>64938469
I work in a movie theater. Teens love it and say it's scary as hell. Everyone out of high school, though, has said it was drivel.
>>64938529
well it must be shit then
still might watch it because smirkfu
Cronenberg or Carpenter?
>>64938229
The Exorcist.
The Revenant. I can barely crawl my way to the supermarket when out of food, so couldn't imagine crawling across arctic tundra after being mauled by a bear and left for dead, and sober all the while.
>>64938564
Carpenter hands down.
>>64938413
anyone?
>>64938305
Literally 2 hours of interviews:the movie. It had one scary scene, the rest was fucking dumb.
>>64938438
It was in the filename but I will spoon feed you.
Masks. 2011 Giallo style film, really underrated

>>64938413
Yea it's pretty scary, been a while though. Both versions of the grudge are good too
>>64938229
The babadook I hear is bretty gud, havent watched it yet
>>64938599
Yes. Both the original and the American remake are both good.
Paranormal Activity
The Thing is a 10/10 horror but I'm sure everyone has seen it enough now that it isn't worth bringing up.
>>64938599
The American remake is my favorite horror movie. The original wasn't as scary.
>>64938652
which is better the Japanese version or the american?
>>64938687
No.
>>64938640
I don't know how this slipped under my radar, but I need it in my life now.
is wolf creak any good?
>>64938413
I haven't seen it since like Jr High, but I remember enjoying it. It was spooky enough to me at the time. It wasn't genre breaking, but it did enough differently that it felt fresh.
>>64938713
the ring or the grudge?
Cant remember for the ring but I'd give a slight edge to the american version of the grudge. Japanese version is still plenty spooky
>>64938640
Is this on any of the streaming sites, or am I gonna have to download it?
I'm a fucking pleb, but most scared I've ever been watching a movie, as an adult, was the original Black Christmas.

87 minutes, the fuck were you watching? Or maybe you kept pausing it so much you made it worse on yourself.

ehh I just ballparked a number because i didnt want to look up the duration. Anyways it was terrible

martyrs is one of my favorites. I dont watch that many though
>>64938809
I was nine or ten when I saw Black Christmas, those voices on the phone messed me up.
At the moment, I'm going to go with Inside, it didn't scare me at the time, but thinking back on it the premise of someone wanting to cut your baby out of you just got under my skin
>horror
>good
Dead genre
>>64938713
Don't listen to this pathetic excuse of a human being - >>64938691 - the Japanese version is far better executed. Relies mostly on psychological horror and the fear of the unseen, whereas the American remake goes for bargain-basement jump scares.

I hope no one seriously thinks the American version of anything is better than the original.
>>64944810
American Grudge and Ring is.
>>64938413
just watched them both literally last week, neither the original or american remake are good films. the OP pic is literally the only slightly scary thing about the original, it's more of a mystery/thriller actually. the remake just went too far with the spooky shit but not in the right ways. dont waste your time.
>>64942002
probably bait but literally none of these are horror
You are now aware Angus Scrimm died about 24 hours before David Bowie.
>>64938305
That shit is not horror, it's mystery drama.
>>64938229
It Follows
1. Alien (Scott, 1979)
2. The Shining (Kubrick, 1980)
3. The Thing (Carpenter, 1982)
4. The Cabin in the Woods (Goddard, 2012)
5. [Rec] (Balaguero & Plaza, 2007)
6. 28 Days Later (Boyle, 2002)
7. Saw (Wan, 2004)
8. The Ring (Verbinski, 2002)
9. The Fly (Cronenberg, 1986)
10. A Nightmare on Elm Street (Craven, 1984)
>>64948564

Candyman, but you have to be 12 to be afraid.
>>64938229
>best
>horror movies
horror is literally pleb: the genre.
Even the crème de la crème horror is still pretty fucking meh.
I gotta go with The Fly, The Thing and The Blob as the best horror films. These are the only non-pleb horror films I can think of.
>>64948791
>>64948792
>>64949070
Oh, and also Shining is boring, and I'm 22 btw.
>>64948714
>Shining is hardly horror
hahahahaha
>>64949132
Horror produces more shit than the other genres, but it's perfectly capable of creating good and great films, and at least a couple of masterpieces.

>>64938305
Excellent first post. One of the best ff ever and top of the class in the last 20 years to the horror genre. Plebs can't into it, though.
>>64949148
>and I'm 22 btw.
Go back to your MTV tier "horror" then you fuck.

>>64938413
I enjoyed both the Japanese and English version, but then I read the book and realised that both movie adaptations are shit compared to it.
>>64938229
Is Asian horror better than the western's? In my experience when the asian makes a horror movie they go all out with the spooky stuff whuke western's are mostly jump scares
>>64952829
You can't generalize like that, also it's highly subjective. Both have some gems. Pic related.
But the original asian horrors are always better than US remakes.
1. The Ring
2. The Shining
3. The Sixth Sense
4. The Blair Witch Project
5. Silent Hill
6. Let the Right One In
7. The Others
8. Jeepers Creepers
9. The Exorcism of Emily Rose
10. The Last Exorcism
11. Drag Me to Hell
12. Trick 'r Treat
13. Sleepy Hollow (1999)
>>64938497
BSS isn't really horror though some sound recording scenes really had me on the edge of my seat, fucking hell.
>pulling the witch's hair and shoving the hot iron thing on her
pic related
also, is this movie basically just Trouble in Terrorist Town?
>>64953639
The bomb has been planted.
Counter terrorists win!
They're all horrible.
>>64954440
*tips*
>>64938413
both the jap and english versions are good, they're very different films though, so its dumb to compare them IMO
most good horror movies are asian, but I think The Thing from 1982 is the best
>>64938229
I think it depends on your phobias
I can take any demon, devil, monster horror and be unphased.
But make a horror about people going insane and I piss my pants.
>>64941753
Oh shut up you weeb.
>>64949070
Afraid maybe, but Candyman's Cabrini-Green setting is unique and makes it stand out. Gothic horror in an urban setting is pretty cool.
>>64949132
>not Psycho
>not The Exorcist
The fucking Blob?
>>64953436
>6. Let the Right One In
Not the american version though. That one sucked in comparision to the original.
>>64938229
House at the end of time (La casa del fin de los tiempos) is the best horror movie I've seen in a while. Mainly because it's also a good drama.
As above so below. Was a good movie.
>>64938413
I saw it in like high school and it spooped me. Something about a little girl ghost thing you can do absolutely nothing against is really terrifying. I've only seen the English version, so the kind of thriller/mystery aspects and finally learning why this little girl wants to kill so many people is neat. I'd say watch it, it's not like you have anything else to do.
Fuck, now I have to download this one again and watch it. I was wondering what I was going to do to pass the time today. Just got done downloading Constantine and now this. I was going to go shoot muh guns, but that requires putting on a shirt and driving to the range...

>>64955422
Neither are horror either way. The original is a great movie, but isn't supposed to be scary at all.
>>64938940
Really loved it but the thriller and drama aspects are much better then the horror aspects.
>>64948564

Ringu is far far better than his american version.
Like Skin US, or Sherlock US...
A Japanese / British movie is always better than his american adaptation.
>>64956305
Which genre would you prefer?
Any horror films where a male has sex with a zombie, ghost, alien...
>>64956673
>Ringu is far far better than his american version.
lol no amurrican version have that weird ass vibe that original dont
Insidious 1 and 2 are good, haven't seen 3
has more of a story/universe to it
Pan's Labyrinth is good, I dunno if it's pure horror, more of a fantasy/drama with some creepy stuff
>>64956673
Ringu is certainly a hell of a lot more Japanese than 'The Ring'. Not for the better, though:
Japanese: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1mbo5vHy8dw
Murrican: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qkVlC2WgEwc
>>64956619
>suspiria
muh nigga
I'd probably go with something like
>Suspiria
>The Thing
>The Exorcist
>The Shining
>Alien
>Henry Portrait of a Serial Killer
>Audition
>Eyes Without A Face
Other ones worth checking out would be
>Onibaba
>The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari
>Scream
>The Fly
>Eraserhead
>Martyrs
Probably a few that I'm forgetting. But yeah there's a pretty big gulf in quality between the two lists. Ahhh actually maybe I'd put Scream in the top list too - but I'm too lazy to edit my post so I'd rather just type out what I'm thinking.
