Anyone else think this was actually pretty bad casting?
>>
the whole cast was off, but the adults were all great actors so I didn't care. They would never have been 100% perfect unless they made it animated.
I could never imagine Umbridge as anything but an actual pig in a dress.

Can someone explain to me why the casting was bad for these movies? I always thought it was good.
>>
>>64915006
At the end of HPB Harry calls Snape a coward and Snape absolutely loses his shit. Would have liked to see Rickman do that but he was just too calm for me. Ruined what should have been a great moment.
Dumbledore from 3 on was terrible. He was supposed to be calm and wise like a Gandalf/Yoda hybrid. Not shove Harry against a wall and scream at him about putting his name in the goblet.

McGonagall was on point.

Trelawney was extremely over acted and had a stupid costume. Her voice during the prophecy was dumb as hell too.

Umbridge was okay. Didn't make me hate her enough.

Voldemort was decent. Except for that scene with him in a suit. Voldemort would never soil himself with muggle clothes. He just never seemed evil enough.

Sirius was shit. Sirius should have seemed more reckless and dangerous. He was as levelheaded as lupin in the movies.

Lupin was good.

Hermione was too attractive. After the first movie she stopped being the bossy know it all from the books, which was disappointing.

Ginny wasn't attractive enough. She's a 10/10 now though if that counts.

Harry's hair was too neat, his eyes were blue not green, and he was a manlet but that's out of radcliffes hands so it's not his fault. Still they make Cruise look tall in movies so they could've done the same thing here.

Ron was pretty good, but ruperts face is so fucking punchable.

Malfoys actor seemed to want to make himself look good instead of being the sniveling shit that Malfoy was. Kind of a recurring theme. Actors in the franchise wanted to look good in a famous role rather than be true to the characters.

Twins weren't funny at all.

Bellatrix was good. HBC is basically Bellatrix in real life though.

Weasley parents were perfect.

Overall really disappointing casting. The whole movie series sucked upon reflection.

Also, Harry's and Voldemorts wands only connected that one time in the graveyard because their cores were feathers from the same Phoenix.

>>
>>64916155
Magnolia and Amadeus my arse! GTFO!
>>
>>64916334
Malfoy desperately trying to make himself look good in every situation is actually very close to the book Malfoy.
>>
>>64916515
I'm a huge fan of the books and he's right. The movies were shit. It's like the Star Wars prequel effect. Fans went to go see them because they love the franchise and something is better than nothing, but that doesn't make them good. They're poorly casted (even though they castes great actors they weren't right for their roles), everyone was out of character and they just weren't well made.
>>
>>64916601
That's pretty true. I'm talking more about the actor though. He seemed to want to come off as talented and attractive (which is VERY Malfoy) but he never really displayed Malfoy's brash arrogance masking self-doubt, or his mounting inner conflict. Maybe the actor wasn't talented enough to pull it off.
>>
>>64915006
I thought it was weird that Umbridge was so hot in the movies, while in the books she looked like a toad.
>>
>>64916334
The HP movies had some of the WORST actor direction I've ever seen. Specially David Yates, that guy is a fucking amateur.
>>
>>64918661

>>
>>64916642

>>
>>64916334
>Twins weren't funny at all.

I feel like the only criteria they were looking for was "have to be identical twins" and "have to look related to rupert grint"
>>
>implying Lucius Malfoy was not the only one that got cast according to what the fucking book said
>implying

Also, Rickman was far too old for Snape. Younger Rickman would've been great, but late 50s-early 60s Rickman stood out like a sore thumb. Moreover, to those complaining that Snape was "too pretty" in the movies, remember the books are written from Harry's POV and his description might have something to do with Harry's own distaste towards Snape.
>>
The casting in his last harry potter film was pretty awesome, so fuck you.
>>
>>64915006
It's good enough, book snape was quite different and movie snape was only good at being silently passive aggressive

Though he is way too fucking old, in the books he is the same age as sirius black
>>
>>64918731
Agree with some of it but I think the main point is what >>64918731 said about the shitty actor direction. It wasn't necessarily on the actors but the director, so much so that Sirius looks a thousand times better in The Prisoner of Azkaban which is undoubtedly the best film in terms of directing and film making

I get that but in the end it might have been too hard for the audience to like him in the end if he was any more dickish than he already was
>>
It was PERFECT casting except for him being 20 years too old.
>>
>>64921843
You weren't really meant to like him at the end. He was always a snivelling creep with a grudge against the world. His redemption doesn't undo a lifetime of being a prick.
>>
>>64921963
>You weren't really meant to like him at the end. His redemption doesn't undo a lifetime of being a prick.
see I think thats where they screenwriter must have thought otherwise and imo that was a fair decision.
>>
The casting is perfect. The only thing is that he was older that Snape should have been (which doesn't damage the story tbqh) and that Rick was an attractive man even characterized.

Oh, man, what a bummer his death :/

>>64915990
I don't know what illustration is that, but he was never bald in the books, he had very greasy curtain hair iirc.

>tfw we never got a good film-accurate video game

We had film-based games of the later films, but OOTP was Extended Sidequest: The Game, HBP was Minigames: The Game and Deathly Hallows were both shitty cover shooters.

I would have liked to the see the series done in the style of Bully, where the Minigames from Half Blood Prince are just that; minigames, not the whole game. Meanwhile, the story is tokd through actual missions with real objectives, and not just one movie, all 8 of them, includingscenes from the books adapted into movie-style via the game.

The GBC games were GOAT. Couldn't tell you how many times I've played through Sorcerer's Stone.

Anyway if I were a billionaire I would make a trilogy of hogwarts RPG's where game 1 is year 1-3, game 2 is year 4-5 and game 3 is year 6-7. It would be set after Harry fucks off but before his children arrive.

Fucking hilarious, kid. Harris was decrepit. He was barely even mobile at that point and wheezed out every line. One of Dumbledore's most prominent qualities was that he was spry for his age, full of life.

The gif tumblr teens use to back up Harris is pointless. Are you really going to be pedantic enough to look up specific moments in the book and compare them to the movies? Spoiler alert, they're going to be different. Constantly. A single instance does not a stupid point prove.

And even if we're going off the books, Dumbledore grows seemingly bipolar as time goes on. He's conflicted, contradictory, and full of ulterior motives. And batshit insane? He's called almost exactly that very often by other characters.

Anybody who honestly thinks Harris was a superior Dumbledore either didn't read the books or just didn't get them. Which is hard to do.

Doesn't matter mate as Harry Potter was easily one of the dullest franchise in the history of movie franchises. Each episode following the boy wizard and his pals from Hogwarts Academy as they fight assorted villains has been indistinguishable from the others. Aside from the gloomy imagery, the seriesüf only consistency has been its lack of excitement and ineffective use of special effects, all to make magic unmagical, to make action seem inert.

Perhaps the die was cast when Rowling vetoed the idea of Spielberg directing the series; she made sure the series would never be mistaken for a work of art that meant anything to anybody?just ridiculously profitable cross-promotion for her books. The Harry Potter series might be anti-Christian (or not), but itüfs certainly the anti-James Bond series in its refusal of wonder, beauty and excitement. No one wants to face that fact. Now, thankfully, they no longer have to.

a-at least the books are g-g-good though
"No!"
The writing is dreadful; the book was terrible. As I read, I noticed that every time a character went for a walk, the author wrote instead that the character "stretched his legs."

I began marking on the back of an envelope every time that phrase was repeated. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous. Rowling's mind is so governed by cliches and dead metaphors that she has no other style of writing. Later I read a lavish, loving review of Harry Potter by the same Stephen King. He wrote something to the effect of, "If these kids are reading Harry Potter at 11 or 12, then when they get older they will go on to read Stephen King." And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you read "Harry Potter" you are, in fact, trained to read Stephen King

I think I read somewhere that Rowling had Rickman in mind when writing the books, or that she recommended him as Snape, or some along those lines. So she clearly approved.

And he did do a pretty good job, but I agree that he was too attractive, and probably too calm about things. Rickman is the reason why so many girls refer to Snape as "the real hero of the series," or act like he was some kind of romantic, misunderstood figure. Snape in the books was a basically a complete shit.
