Anon, you seem to have made a huge mistake. You were the one who brought up Star Wars as a non-sequitur to show what "great" taste you have in films because you like a Russian hack and someone disagrees with you. I hope you learn from this grave mistake because I won't always be there to point it out for you. Thanks.
>>
Going to be honest, I thought Stalker was tremendously boring. Could have easily cut like half an hour out of the film and made it a bit pacier. One of the very few films I actually fast forwarded through some segments because I just knew nothing was going to happen but some depressed looking dudes stared at each other/the environment for like five minutes.

I'm not arguing that it's good or not, but listing things in a film like they're retarded isn't an argument.
>>
>>64885971
Those things are inherently retarded. If you can't see that you should read up more and educate yourself, as hard as that may be for you.

Are we just talking about movies?
>>
I tried watching Stalker recently, it had a cool aesthetic but the dialogue wasn't really that deep. Like the writer said he didn't want to be remembered for a 100 years but forever... and that's it, he doesn't talk about it any further.

What was the point of the last scene? Did I miss how it related to the rest of the movie or was it just a little sci-fi treat? I get it's the stalker's "punishment" for venturing into the zone so often, but is there any more to it?

STALKER Is Literally One Of The Worst Movies Ever Created; So Fucking boring. First Off, It's Super Slow. I'd Have More Fun Watching Paint Dry Then I Did Watching This Movie. Second, Why Does The Main Guy always Throw Those Nuts? Like, Nothing Ever Happens. Thirdly, None Of The Dialog is Interesting; All They talk About Is Meh, I Want To Go This Way And Meh I Want To Go The Quick Way. Or Whenever The Main Russian Is On The Verge Of Crying Whenever He Tells Them About The Zone Or Whatever. Lastly, How In The Hell Did The Phone Ring If Nothing Else In The Area Worked, Like What The Hell Was The Point Of That Whole Scene. All Of A Sudden The One Guy Has A Bomb To Blow Some Place Up. The Place Doesn't Even Grant Wishes, It Was All In Their Heads. Also, Wtf Was Up With The Girl At The End Who Had Magneto Powers, What Was The Point. It Just Ended Right After Showing You She Has Superpowers. Like It Could Have Explored That And The Movie Would Be A Thousand Times Better. All Of You Don't Realize How Shit The Movie Is And You All Think It Is Godlike Because Its Old And Your All Contrarians. Go Watch Something Else Super Boring For Your Time Instead Of Shitposting Over Here About Your Shitty Fucking Movies.

pretentious pseuds with no taste usually parade Herzog as the paragon of fine cinema because they have no idea how framing or mise en scene works. Herzog has interesting ideas but makes very ugly and formless films, technically speaking.

>>64897958
His documentaries are top notch, maybe not perfect but they do seem to captivate me. Still need to watch a couple but the one about the cave paintings was gorgeous
>>
>>64898120
I consider his documentaries part of a different group than his fiction films. In documentaries, ideas, storytelling, and editing predominates, which Herzog excels at. However he cannot use the intrinsically visual elements of filmmaking well imo, and his tracking shots end up looking embarrassing because he doesn't seem to understand why long takes exist, and his camera angles are so clumsy and uninspired that it's like he's filming ugly theater without staging.
>>
>>64898304
I've only seen his docu's so I guess I have no place to defend him. I heard the one about the boat was pretty good though? Maybe people were just saying that because he actually dragged the fucking boat across land or whatever he did
>>
>>64898357
Idk maybe I just don't like the guy, but Fitzcarraldo is one of my less favorite of his films. 'White ambitious man gets natives to carry steamship over a mountain' is literally all you need to know, and you've seen the film basically. Even Aguirre I'm not particularly fond of, which seems to be everyone's favorite. I would recommend The Enigma of Kasper Hauser though, probably my favorite, though Stroszek is pretty all right, too
>>
>>64896693
Lot of people complain about the breaking the fourth wall, explaining it to the audience like the audience is retarded approach, because nobody else ever fucking did. It's entertaining and scary and most importantly it's fucking educational. I understood generally what happened, but I had no idea about "synthetic CDO's". So I got to experience that AH SHEEIT moment with the character.

Yeah Wall Street defenders seem to have beef. Some of the negative reviews are totally just defending the banks and wall street. Washington post accuses it of Marxism. I thought it did a pretty good job of making it so that there weren't really "bad guys." Everyone was just behaving in a system that no one person made. Really they didn't even bother touching on the fact that the ball really started rolling when Glass-Steagall was repealed.

>MFW congress got a veto-proof majority on the Gramm–Leach–Bliley Act as a result of the Lewinski scandal
>MFW that kills Glass-Steagal
>MFW the big banks go from controlling 15% of the GDP in the 90's to 65%
