How the FUCK did this not get a best picture nomination?
Same with Sicario.

Not enough of a meme flick like a certain furious road
They were afraid that Oscar Isaac would tear up the red carpet.

Because it was garbage.
Even Fury Road was better.

>They were afraid that Oscar Isaac would tear up the red carpet.
Is there a webm of that scene?
Felt like a feminist propaganda movie imo, just really subtle.

>>64872123
It was thrash, lets just say lower needs for lower breeds.
Predictable, boring, and slow.
I literally turned off after 30 minutes, then talked with someone about the film, and I correctly guessed the ending et cetera without coming off like a fool.
Awful film.
>>64872123
Lonely white guy gets cucked: the movie
>>64872181
I liked both Ex Machina and Sicario
Guess I'll never be edgy and contrarian enough for /tv/
>>64872344
But there are no female characters in it.
>>64872123
They had to make space for "Big Short"
a movie with memes and characters so dank
they went off script, they broke the 4th wall XD and talked to the audience, A reak flickematic experience the kind that makes you think

This is the what neo /tv/ users believe
He sometimes contributes by making his own tfa threads, or fury road threads. He enjoys posting dank memes, calling reddit on everything that doesn't have 10 daily threads.
He's never watched a foreign movie, because reading is for nerds.

I'm the guy that pointed out the Continuity Errors in TFA and called the whole Star Wars franchise a complete rip off of Dune.
And I have read plenty of Films.

I bet you hold Cinema Sins in high regard too.
Because it was literally "Don't Trust Cucks: The Motion Picture"
>>64872123
Because the movie teaches people not to trust your emotions over cold hard facts. It's too red pill for Hollywood.
>>64872123
I just watched this two days ago and I enjoyed it but I don't think it deserves any awards.
There were some things that made no sense to me.
Hopefully garland will get best screenplay even if issacs got robbed
I was sad at first because I thought that the ending was unjust. Then I realised that Nathan deserved to die for trying to play God and Caleb deserved to die for his lust and empathy for a robot.
>>64872123
Is this good? It's on Amazon Prime. Does it have a stupid ending or a happy ending?
>How the FUCK did this not get a best picture nomination?
there were at least 8 better films than it.

HOW THE FUCK DID STEVE JOBS NOT GET NOMINATED OVER MAD MAX AND THE MARTIAN?!
Ex Machina and Sicario were 7/10 movies at best

Ex Machina was this years Nightcrawler, both are amazing movies that the panel of 60 year old dudes probably didn't "get" and therefore it didn't get many Nominations. With Sicario, it doesn't matter how good Villeneuve's movies are, they won't get nominated.
Every year this board gives too much credit to the Oscars. A bunch of american producers patting each other on the back.
>>64872123
because it's a piece of crap
Sicario on the other hand should get the nomination
>>64877345
this
>>64875543
>fakes being in love with a guy so she can ''set herself free''
It showed that an artificial intelligence will likely use every advantage given to it in order to get what it wants, regardless of who else is harmed in the process.
Truly women will be the ambassadors between man and machine for this reason
>>64877345
Nigger it wasn't that deep, your personal enjoyment of the film doesn't make it best of the year.
>>64877345
>>64877906
But honestly, Ex Machina was the best film last year.
Nothing even came close to being on its level, for Hollywood releases anyway.
>>64877906
Its one of the best films of the year you are retarded
OP they didn't nom it bc it was literally the only thing I wanted out of the academy
>>64878006
Tangerine was better.
>>64878054
I'm actually really shocked they didn't nominate that for anything.
They need to add a Best Independent Film category, like actual independent films, not ones with A-list celebrities.

Hurr durr I'm going to fall or artificial life because no female has ever paid me any special attention before.
Yeah sure it's plausible for some of you but come the fuck on . . .
>>64872344
It was a feminist film, but the creator stupidly made it anti-feminist in every way. It showed how a feminist robot would lie, back stab, and murder the most benevolent man (represented Jesus).
>>64875481
she actually can
she uses electrostatic induction to charge her batteries and she has enough control over the flow to overload the power system of the research center
she can probably charge just by holding her hands over an electrical outlet
>>64880366
Oscar Isaac is a beautiful man
>>64879035
the entire thing was by nathan's design
he had to seriously fight the robots in the end but it had to be purely physically. he had to give his creations and himself an equal chance of surviving for the test to be valid
>>64874967
it has an ending you will think is stupid if you are stupid.
>>64880889
I'd tear up the dance floor with him if you know what I mean.
What movies give off a FUTURE feel?
>>64872123
Seriously though:
it was a British indie film with almost no budget. those kinds of films don't normally get nominated for best picture unless they become mainstream hits.
the only exception is Chariots of Fire which is about a Jew running in the Olympics.
also Ex Machina is a sci-fi film with eroticized full-frontal nudity. when did the Academy favor either of those things.
>>64880855
>the creator stupidly made it anti-feminist in every way
everything about it was intentional. it isn't anti-feminist because Ava is meant to be a male fantasy not a real woman.
>>64881119
i liked children of men it gives me a half-life 2 feel which is kinda futurey
>>64878490
It should get screenplay. I actually think it has a pretty good chance of grabbing it too. Visual Effects, no. Should (and probably will) go to Mad Max.
>>64881178
her design is male fantasy
her mind is just as human as everyone else, which is part of the point of the film
the film itself had nothing to do with feminism at all except tengentially
>>64881126
>eroticized full-frontal nudity.
What? A decade ago general rule of thumb was if you get nekkid, you'll get an award.
See Kate Winslet in the reader for example.
>>64878490
>The film was shot like ordinary live action. There were no special effects, greenscreen, or tracking markers used during filming. All effects were done in post-production. To create Ava's robotic features, they filmed the scenes both with and without actress Alicia Vikander's presence, which allowed them to capture the background behind her. The parts they wanted to keep, especially her hands and face, were then rotoscoped while the rest was digitally painted out and the background behind her restored. Camera- and body-tracking systems transferred Vikander's performance to the CGI robot's movements
British effects studio Double Negative did the work, they've won Oscars for Interstellar and Inception.
>>64875592
Mad Max was honestly nominated and Steve Jobs was honestly not? What is going on?
Mad Max was great fun but all the non-action scenes were fucking cringy, especially the badly acting model dialogue.
Now those non-actresses can run around telling everbody they starred in an academy award nominated film.
>>64878054
And was it nominated for anything?
>>64872123
I have to say that I liked this filmI don't like what the protag did at the end though just standing there. But it was Oscar Isaac's fault for making her face look like his perfect woman. He didn't account for how far someone will go when they think they're in love.
>>64872123
It was good, but I actually liked "The Machine" a little better.
>>64872123
overrated trash. great cuckcore flick though
>>64881402
>Steve Jobs was honestly not? What is going on?
everyone is tired of the worshiping of this faggot so its hard to get excited for the 20th film about him even if its well done.
>>64881402
>Mad Max was honestly nominated and Steve Jobs was honestly not?
it's literally just because of one being seen by more of the Academy than the other. it's voted on by people who have no obligation to even see any of the films.
plus George Miller has worked for decades and some of the Academy may have fond memories of the Mad Max films.
>>64872123
Because it was shit marketed towards 13-17 year old Apple-fanboys.
>>64881470
Considering it had a £1million budget, it wasn't bad. 10/10 soundtrack though.
Ex Machina's soundtrack was pretty good too and is a superior film.
>>64881304
the discussion was the Best Picture nominees, pay attention
>>64880366
I'm fucking in love with Oscar Isaac.
I want him to treat me like a younger brother and tell me stuff;_;
I don't understand why the scientist (or scientists in these kinds of movies) didn't prepare for his creation to rebel. If the foundation of the experiment was emotions, shouldn't he have foresaw that?
>>64881257
>her mind is just as human as everyone else
not true at all. her mind was modelled on Blue Book search engine data. that's not the same as her having a "soul" and the whole point of the film is to demonstrate the fact.
rather, that plot point was in the film to explain why Nathan couldn't predict everything Ava would do.
Garland said the film was partly about the objectification of women in interviews, but mostly it's about AI. it was inspired by a book on that subject he read. keeping Ava imprisoned was meant to be seen as "wrong" but not because she's equivalent to a human.
>>64881126
I hope Alex Garland's next script/movie turns out good as well. Dredd was great, and his book The Beach was phenomenal(movie adaption was garbage, even though Leo was a decent enough cast).
>>64881217
Feels more like "post-apocalypse" than future to me. Something with technology and so on, like Blade Runner and Ex Machina, you know? That kind of feel. At least another Blade Runner, with Ford set to be in it, has been announced.
>>64881689
>Furricane: ...
>>64877345
But Ex Machina was a solid 6/10 at best, anon
>>64881807
>I hope Alex Garland's next script/movie turns out good as wel
He's adapting this book - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Annihilation_(VanderMeer_novel) - for his next film. Writing and directing it.
>>64881766
my interpretation of the film is a bit different, her not having a "soul" (whatever that means) or being modeled on search engine data is largely irrelevant. a perfect simulation of something is functionally and experientially identical to the real thing anyway.
you can also argue that if ava wasn't human then neither was nathan. in my opinion they were both, at the end, human.
Hmm let's see
Characters can be summed up thusly:
>ginger autist
Muh cuckolded by robot waifu muh sjw soft cunt soccer mom faggot meme

>watch movie
>this scene never happens

4/10Happy fapping
>>64881975
Ava's mind doesn't work in the same way as a human's, she's just learned to anticipate and manipulate human reactions. it's made more apparent in the screenplay but is hinted pretty clearly in the movie by her "art", by her dream being literally just standing at an intersection, and by her answer to how old she is being "one" with no unit of measurement. it's not a question of interpretation, although exactly how intelligent/adaptable she is gets left ambiguous at the end, with the last stage of the "Turing Test" being implied to be what happens after she escapes.
>you can also argue that if ava wasn't human then neither was nathan.
now you're talking like someone who's spent too long discussion Blade Runner special editions.

>>64872123
Even though I loved Ex Machina it really was a glorified B movie. It was too well directed to not get an award though. Screen Writing probably.
>>64882678
Because it didn't have your Michael Bay explosions you fucking capeshit watching normalfag?
This movie had just barely enough plot for a 30 minute episode of The Twilight Zone and Oscar Isaac's character was terrible (and not terrible in a hurr you're not supposed to like him anon type of way).
>>64882741
naw senpai you really misunderstood what i meant.
The plot is something out of a b movie. its simple and I could really see it being in a low budget 70s film or something, directing wise the film proved itself better than some low budget shitty film. honestly one of my favorite from 2015
