Then others went back in time to the 70s where a lot of the stuff happened in later seasons

80% of every episode was a flashback forcing us to like the characters for their tragic backstory and not for their actions on the island.
When they run out of flashback shit, they finally let some people off the island while others get sent back in time and introduce new characters to do flashbacks for, then they do flashbacks for the characters who left and give them le ebin tragic events all over again.
And then all the faggots that left the island decide they need to go back and finally figure out how to get back but they all die trying to get back and get caught in purgatory. Everyone on the island already lived out their life and died.
The island they get to isn't even the island, it's purgatory. Everyone from the flight and everyone who was originally on the island get sent there. And due to mind fuckery and being dead and all, they don't remember that they died and all assume they're still alive and that their life continued on up to the point where the people try and get back, which is where it spins in to an alternate timeline within purgatory.
There is also the parallel in which they escape purgatory, and that involves everyone who died finding eachother in the "real world" and remembering that they were in purgatory, and then they all cross over at the end.

This. LOST was GOAT show to wait for, discuss and watch with friends each week. A huge part of the enjoyability of it was making up crazy theories and waiting in anticipation after a major twist + all of the fan hype and the fact that everyone was watching it at the time. I'd say almost 50% of the show is everything that surrounded it when it came out.
It's a show I dearly love because I had so much fun watching when it came out, but the rewatch value now that the whole thing is over isn't that high desu. Especially since you know how everything pans out, and it's nowhere close to the amazing things you imagined in the earlier seasons.
Also fillers and too lengthy seasons. LOST fillers were shit.
