Are the new planet of the Apes movies the best blockbusters currently running?
Because I can't think of any others with writing as good. I care about the characters and find them engaging.
The science fiction is clever and well done.
The visual effects push boundaries in ways most others have not.
The stories stand on their own as original movies and don't over rely on nostalgia (they throw in references but they're usually subtle and well done). This is unlike The Force Awakens.
As far as I'm concerned, these are the only movies that maintain my faith in blockbusters. Almost all other ones play it safe and are boring.

The first was decent, the second was very good. It's too bad that Gary Oldman won't return for the third movie, but yes, they are very well written and made for summer blockbusters.

I actually preferred the first personally. The second was a really good planet of the apes movie but the first had a more prevalent sci-fi element and jailbreak plotline.

They need to make the next one take place WAY after Dawn. They need to make Caesar and Koba religious figures, with different factions following their ideals that have been twisted over time. Since apes have no record keeping, it would be believable to think that people like Caesar could become legendary over time.

Probably one of the better blockbuster flicks out there right now, but that isn't saying much.

well, the third is War of the planet of the apes, so it''s most likely going to be Caesar leading the remaining apes against the approaching military men who were called at the end of Dawn. Hopefully Caesar is more of a hardened leader as apposed to his last movie, he didnt quite lead the apes the way he should have. Not saying walking into their camp and murdering them like kolba was right, but he definitely should have seen that the humans were a threat because of their leader.

Dawn was pretty good but the ending felt lacking. like they didn't really have a solid idea of how it would lead into the next one so they just left it open.
