That would require a radiator to direct the flow of energy away from the inside of the suit and radiators are heavy and gives a convenient weak spot the enemy can shot at.

You could turn the armor off like regular lightsabers. It would really be no different.
Just imagine something like the stormtrooper armor and add a bunch of lightsabers to it with a bit of space between them and the armor so you get airflow.
