Just finished the two parter in season two.
I watched it as it aired back in the day, the mythology bullshit is a lot easier to follow when marathoning it but it's clear when they just started making shit up with no grand plan like lost. Like wtf happened to that grey alien that was living in the core of the nuclear reactor? Never to be mentioned again.

I know this goes without saying, but marathoning the episodes back to back (as opposed to one a week like in the 90s) does have a downside in that it makes it even more apparent how much it doesn't make sense that Scully believes nothing weird or alien related is going on every single time. It's like bitch you personally stole an alien fetus at the end of season one and saw a man assassinated right before your eyes an hour later because of it. Its a fun nostalgia though.

I like it, the the writing and continuity is sometimes so off kilter that even the mediocre MotW episodes (especially the comedic ones) are a nice break from the alien/conspiracy shit.
