Consciousness-expanding films thread.
Only popular movies ITT so far.
Mine's a little more obscure.

As someone who disliked the Tree of Life, should I even attempt this Malick flick?
>>64665826
>een film
>>64665666
best choice so far.
>>64666262
I feel like Knight of Cups perfects everything he was trying to say in Tree of Life. The latter didn't blow me away but the former did.

I enjoyed these, but they're really straightforward and in no way deep.

>>64667651
honestly the first shit movie to be posted itt

You never tried DMT have you? Or even LSD?
You haven't truly lived yet.
Good thread among all the trash.
>>64669959
I've done acid plently of times, I'm willing to bet more than you have. Tried DMT once and didn't care for the experience.
But what does that have to do with Enter the Void? If anything my experiences with psychedelics made me dislike the movie. It was trying to hard with everything it did from the first person to the death shit. I hate this word but if any movie is overly pretentious it's Enter the Void.
Now Koyaanisqatsi are Baraka were some powerful and visually amazing experiences while tripping. Enter the Void is like teenager bullshit
>>64667651
This movie gave me the worst headache of my life and it seemed to last longer than any movie I've ever seen. And I've watched Begotten. It was completely awful.
>>64665666
>>64665666
You wont trick me Satan
Waking life is really comfy btw
obvious one, can't believe it hasn't been mentioned
>>64667170
How the fuck would it not count as Consciousness-expanding?
>>64665666
where can i read more about the concepts discussed in waking life? which philosophers in particular deal with these issues? free will, lucid dreaming & the idea that we exist within someone else's consciousness were particularly intriguing to me
>>64665666
>college freshman starterpack
It's a nice little film and especially the art is impressive but don't pretend it has any depth.
>>64673379
as a film it's pretty shallow but don't pretend the schizophrenic messages of the film are not deep.
Tree of life.
>>64673246
You seem confused. We're talking about consciousness-expanding films ITT, not sci-fi flicks.
>>64673418
>but don't pretend the schizophrenic messages of the film are not deep.
It's been awhile, please remind me of it. That he's actually dead? The solipsism in the dialogue with the theatre girl? What do you mean?
>>64673379
>>64673343
Well it has depth in that they talk about philosophical stuff, that could potentially be consciousness expanding
Just google the shit you´re interested in, a lot of people have had smart thoughts about it
>>64673343
Look into "Kashmir Shaivism", Indian Tantric philosophy. But be careful... once you enter the rabbit hole, there's no turning back. It's very hard to get into at first but if you're determined you'll find your answers. Reality is weirder than you think.
>tfw it all clicks
I've never had a more rewarding experience with a film in my entire life.
>>64673493
>Well it has depth in that they talk about philosophical stuff, that could potentially be consciousness expanding
Yeah but on a super super superficial level to the point where it's almost pretentious with no content. I regard it as a kind of Sophie's world for adults, but it's really easy to watch it and think it has some kind of deep philosophical point when it's just a bunch of modern theories and text strung together for 90 minutes.
>>64673429
tree of life doesn't do anything that can't be done with text
>>64673453
did you really not find 2001 consciousness-expanding?
>>64673429
Pleb detected.
>>64673577
i had to read an analysis online afterwards to fully understand the plot
This is my recommendation, coming from someone who's seen all but a few of the movies in this thread.

Jodorowsky was pretty much just throwing random shit at a bible-themed wall, he even admits it in some of his interviews. He was just making a weird thing for people to look at, sort of like Eraserhead. What the Holy Mountain comes out to is basically an unfunny random-humor sortof strange monty python movie. It very much has the python feel too it, which isn't a good thing for a movie that's ostensibly something influential and meaningful.
It's not entirely a terrible movie(it has some pretty great scenes actually) but when it comes to the criteria of this thread it's garbage.

Nice trips. I watched this movie as a 14 year old and enjoyed the shit out of it. I should watch it again and see if makes more sense than it did then. Dem art styles.

seriosly? isn't this just some vengeance flick ?
