I liked the aimlessness of it actually. Which I could see as a problem, but their on vacation. They're old and living in this one moment of such a long life, and they have no idea what to do.There's no ending for Harvey's film. Micheal's so lost without his wife, and only constantly reminded since his most famous piece is with her. Micheal's daughter had a future, and is now completely devastated. Paul doesn't feel like he's worth anything as an actor. Let's keep on pushing that boulder.
I thought it was neat. A lot of vignettes, but beautifully stylized.

I like your optimistic take but don't share it. Their aimlessness is one thing, and it is effective and immersive. There's no forward momentum, it cycles back on itself, makes strange departures, Cain disappears for a half hour in the third act, just lots of strange, clunky choices. I wanted to love it, i'm glad you did. He's an enormous talent, just would prefer tighter scripting.
