Having watched Conan for the first time last year, it struck me how "sincere" the movie felt. It wasn't poking fun at the source material, the fight scenes look authentic, the music fits the setting and is insanely good. The story isn't even that over the top. I guess I'm too used to fantasy movies being filled with irony and jokes now.
