Is anyone else psyched for this? I'm a 90s kid but thought the book was epic. looks like Spielberg is directing:

Ha, the amount of hate in this thread is amusing but predictable from a such a shallow board as /tv/. Even a seventh year could note the level of penmanship, nuance, and craft that went into a great literary work like Ready Player One.
Truly it is a fascinating read that plays with the very human notion of obsession and delves deep into a exploration of our everyday interactions with the technological world, asking difficult questions about reality and what it means to be human in the process.
I bet you plebs thought American Psycho was bad too because "muh ocd narrator and all the references."

My first thought is, since this is a Willy Wonka plot, the rich dead guy created such a massive trivia challenge in the hopes that his successor would carry on his legacy because the winner would have an extremely similar decision making process, having grown in the same pop culture environment and taken in the same moral lessons and goals. There's diversity in any fanbase, but if you somehow could filter the entire human race for someone who likes EXACTLY everything you've ever liked, you probably share a lot with him culturally/socially/morally/etc.
My second thought is I probably put more thought into that concept than the guy that actually wrote the book.
