can we talk about how bad and mismarketed this movie was?

I AM PASSIVELY PLEASED THAT IT FLOPPED

ITS OVER JLAW IS FINISHED :^)

It's literally about this person and her "invention".

No, really
>>
>>64597929
Oh...that's why they don't make it obvious...

Well, I wouldn't have gone out of my way to see it anyway, Jennifer Lawrence is such a boring actress.
>>
>>64597719
I actually liked the first 2/3rds a lot. It was a lot like Silver Linings Playbook: Great actors playing dysfunctional trash with some quirky little touches thrown in like the guys shooting at the auto yard or that her ex-husband lives in the basement. Then they just did nothing with it after she got famous. The conflict with cowboy hat dude felt like such an afterthought as if O. Russell was under deadline. Still, after the two duds of SLP and AH this was a welcome outing.
>>
>>64597929
>>64598008

wtf?

holy hell.
>>
>>64597905
I saw the film and I'm still not sure what it is about.
I mean, it's all over the place in terms of theme. First half is all about disfunctional families and relationships, then it turns to a story about the rough way to financial success in the business world.

Also all characters are cardboard stereotypes, except for Joy who only has a brief moment of interesting character development in the last 15 minutes.
>>
>>64597719

They could have paid any English speaking beaner to do the job for 30% of what they paid JLaw.
>>
>>64598313
she is literally the only reason this movie is selling anything at all though
>>
>>64597719
But she's a strong, independent woman that don't need no prince!

>>

Based on the previews...I have no idea.

I guess it could have been about anything.
>>
>>64598406
YOU SAW OPS RETARDED POSTER THAT WAS HARDLY USED IN THE ADVERTISEMENT OF THE MOVIE?
>>
>>64597719
It wasnt as bad as it had an irrelevant plot. Its really pushing the boundaries of which insignificant real-life story a movie can make you feely about

I'm so happy JLaw is failing. Fuck that fat goober.

OH BOY TIME FOR THE DAILY JENNIFER LAWRENCE HATE THREAD
>>
>>64598348
This.
Actors who are box-office draws barely exist anymore, they've become rare. JLaw is one of the few left (along with DiCario and Brad Pitt and maybe some capeshit people).

Weren't you here for the fappening, newfriendo?
>>
>>64598449
It's painfully obvious that they tried so hard to make it interesting, with the unnessecary soap opera dream sequence bullshit, the 'comic relief' mother falling in love with the plumber, and that gun shooting
>>

the shotgun scene is used quite a lot in marketing though
>>
>>64598540
The sad part is if /tv/ told you you'd have the complete opposite opinion. You'd be smirking at your keyboard typing "BASED JLAW" every night cause you're a fucking sheep.
>>
>>64598864
I haven't really been seeking out info on the film. I've seen the trailer, or it's been on while I'm in the room, but I don't recall the shotgun in any scene I saw.

But I imagine it would be used a lot, it makes the film look more interesting then it probably is.
>>
>>64597719

Both holdovers from the last generation of movie stars. I'm not sure you could even call Pitt a "draw" anymore, he's spent most of the past decade producing and using his clout to get movies he likes made by starring in them

Anteaters aren't known for emotional dysfunction. Don't push yourself too hard, kiddo.

just got back from seeing this. i actually thought it was great, but I also haven't seen silver linings playbook which people can't help but bring up when criticizing joy.

i get that it's a really dumb story when you stop to think about it, but there's nothing wrong about making the mundane dramatic. that's kinda what real life is.
>>
>>64600214
>>64599927

What would you like to talk about, anons? Bring up a serious topic pertinent to the thread, and I'll make a quality post.
>>
>>64600278
I thought the music and the "fantastical" elements were really well done. As I said, the first 2/3rds were very strong. I just didn't buy the ending conflict.
>>
does jlaw say the word masturbate in this film cinema
>>
>>64597719
>mismarketed
explain. I don't plan on watching it ever. I'm glad this team finally made a dud. Their style worked for silver linings, but you could see how shit it could get in hustle and I guess this movie showed its full potential.
>>
>>64600414
nope, this movie is as sexless and loveless as can be
>>
It's not JLaw I hate

It's David O Russell.
>>
>>64600424

I haven't seen it, but I imagine it's akin to Crimson Peak: marketed as a gothic horror with romantic elements when it's really a gothic romance with horror elements.

Similarly, the trailers for Joy made it seem as if the protagonist is a feminist's dream, when really, reviews indicate the story is largely mundane. Feminists will probably still enjoy seeing the self-realization of the protagonist, though.

>look the movie up

>>
When me and the wife went to see Spectre, the trailer for this showed, and the bit where she does the sooper serius bit of ACTING with something about 'muh family', about half of the theatre groaned, laughed or just sighed and said 'jesus'.

So horribly cringeworthy, the whole trailer was just JLAW: DOING THE ACTING and not a single person in there gave a fuck. People are getting tired of her constant mugging to the camera yawning out her monotone lines.
>>
>>64600657
>wife

pics? /tv/ isn't really a "dox" board
>>
Is this worth watching? There's only two promo handout stills on IMFDB lel
>>
>>64600840
No
>>
>>64597719

I think they marketed it the way they did intentionally, as a kind of ambiguous thriller-type movie, so people wouldn't know it was about some housewife and her idea for a mop, and would see it for jennifer lawrence
>>
>>64600657
yeah, trailers are almost universally shit. plus you were all there to see spectre so your opinion doesn't count for much
>>
I don't know why people got/get hot and bothered by JLaw. She always struck me as that annoying girl in high school that no one really liked but was just attractive enough to secure the requisite attention from populist driven teens. And I think her face is weird.
>>
>>64597719
like that brad pitt movie that had him with a shot gun, that ended up being a talkie or some shit.
