what's the scariest movie you've ever seen? i'm not asking which one you think is best, just which one honestly scared you the most.

picture related, almost shat my pants when i watched it the first time. second would be nightmare on elm street
>>
>>64597182
Probably the grifter
>>
>>64597182
Me too. But then I watched it as an adult and thought it was quite lame actually.

I can't think of any horror movie that has scared me as an adult though. However, like a junkie, I'm alway searching for that kick you got from watching horror as a kid.

When I was a kid I saw Dario Argento's Inferno, and it was the scariest shit I had ever seen. It was scary not only because of the horror elements, but because of the weird/surreal 70s aesthetic and typical unfitting but groovy Italian horror movie soundtrack. I had never seen anything that violent before.

I watched this and the other movies in the same series not too long ago and I really liked them. They're not really that scary to me anymore, but goddamn Suspiria and Inferno are visually beautiful. And as I said the soundtrack is groovy as fuck.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)

There's a bleak finality to it that's never been equaled in these type of films.

>>
>>64597182
The 'murrican remake of The Ring made me not be able to sleep for a week. However I was 10 at the time, and it was my first real horror film.

Scariest in modern times is probably Gravity at the cinema. Only for the fact that it sort of actually can happen (the drifting away in space part).

Shit like ghosts and monsters aren't particularly scary when you grow up and understand that they don't fucking exist.
>>
Sinister

Dont know why, it's just a generic horrorfilm. But that black-metal painted fucker is scary

Jacob's Ladder or Aliens

But, I watched them when I was fairly young.

Ya I was 12 when Event Horrizon came out. Scared the shit out of me. I wonder how it holds up today.

I also remember watching this movie called The Relic that scarred me so bad I could not sleep. Watched it a few years ago and found it boring(ish) (I always like monsters)

The Thing (81) scared me but I loved and still like it. Aliens too.
>>
>>64598179
This film is genuinely the closest I think anyone has gotten to capturing the sensations of a nightmare
>>
The Blair Witch Project scared me so much as a child i had to leave the room. I was an extremely imaginative child so it was the worst movie for me

no other movie ever scared me like that
>>
Is this Event Horizon thing some obscure /tv/ meme or is it actually worth watching?

All I can inquire about it is that it's just another critically panned Paul W.S Anderson film
>>

Watch it and find out, newfriend.

Kairo definitely.

Recently saw Vampyr. The shadow effects were especially unnerving. Really got to me. Was wondering what to watch next. Was thinking either The Phantom Carriage or Eyes Without a Face. Suggestions?
>>
>>64600656

The lawnmower one was better. Fucking Sinister. Movie was a 9/10 when it was just about the home movies, but as soon as the spooky kids and boogyman got involved the movie took a serious nosedive to about a 1.5/10. Only movie that I've seen that ever had a drop like that was Begotten.

>>
>>64597182
Nightmare on Elm Street. Atmosphere is what scares me the most, and that had a lot. The part where Freddy is walking down the alley and his arms elongate to block her escape, very upsetting.
>>
>>64600891
I saw Jacob's Ladder for the first time when I was 5. I pretty much have PTSD from it now. Scene where the nurse's hat falls off and she has the strange growth, and the scene where the car almost runs him down and he sees the face shaking wildly through the window. Stuck with me for many years.
>>
>>64601141
The only thing that scared me about it were the short recording they found of the original crew getting wiped out. That was fucking horrifying. The rest was just suspense.
>>
inb4 Event Horizon is 40k prequel.

i remember watching jacobs ladder and being bored to bits. when /x/ was a new board and everyone talked about section 9 i watched that too (both these movies routinely appear on /tv/'s best ofs horror movies), literally one of the worst movies ive ever seen.

Man the part in 3, I think, where the father turns on the lights and sees his mother in law and other people dressed in black performing some kind of ritual gave me the chills
>>
>>64601996
I remember a friend of mine talking about it when I was in school (I can still remember her talking about the witch having like horse's hair all over) and then saw it with my uncle (I was really young) it gave me nightmares for years

In regards to the Nightmare on Elm Street series,
I was thinking I would just watch the ones which Wes Craven was involved in.
Anyone think I would I be missing out if I did this?

Event Horizon for me as well. It's hard to top, and scared the hell out of me when I was 10.

Night of the Demon from 1980. It's not really a scary movie but the camerawork looks like a fucking snuff movie and it has Bigfoot both ripping a guy's dick off while he's peeing in a bush and raping and impregnating a girl who then gives birth to a half-human half-bigfoot thing. Really a greasy and horrible movie

Mothman Prophecies. The entire atmosphere of that movie unnerved me so much.

>>64602060
Chaos from WH40K played straight. Fairly scary, but not as good as it could have been, especially give such a strong cast. I really wish it had made more money, then we could get more cosmic horror and perhaps a legit Lovecraft movie.
>>
Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer. Especially the home invasion video; that shit creeped the fuck out of me.

One Hour Photo was also disturbing because it never occurred to me that developers know all these facets of our lives.

Even Horizon has some great imagery but all in all is a pretty shitty horror film.
Some of the dialog and sound effects are downright laughable.

Who the fuck thought this was a good movie to show to drugged up, likely still traumatized wounded service-members?

Honestly a true story.
