They need to do a Stargate series about a special missions team SG-X or something. A team that does Earth's dirty work and they don't exist on any SG records, nobody in the Galaxy knows where there from, they sometimes even have to face off against regular SG teams. It'll be a very political show, the team would eventually begin hating what they do, especially when more and more innocent lives are lost as a result of them "just following orders", finally one of the team members offers himself for judgement to one of the alien races and they execute him after he informs everything, Earth and SG-1 deny everything and claim that the team is rogue and that they are wanted. As a result the team actually goes rogue and when they find comfort in the hands of all these different alien races that they wronged, they decide to become galaxy vigilantes, of course this happens after one member shoots her commanding officer and the team leader for attempting to follow on a new mission provided by Earth's government. She becomes the team leader and they venture to become vigilantes, their only connection to Earth is O'Neill who after learning of their existence, starts secretly and against SG command, contacting them and providing assistance and info to them, they let him know that if even if Earth is the oppressor, they will fight them.

>>

You may have gone too far in some places on that one, anon.

I wish they'd just do another show in continuity though. This fad of scrapping continuities for the normie audience is fucking bullshit.
>>
>>64597336
At the time the new team is formed, Earth of course forms a new special missions team this time publicly, claiming that their sole mission is to hunt the rogue team, so the show will have many episodes with these teams interacting and when command asks the new Special Missions team to perform a side mission, the other team always interrupts and that's when Earth starts looking for the mole, so we'll have good drama for O'Neil too.

I've seen that posted in one of these threads before and looked it up, and I think he had it right that the studio has their own plans for the rights. I think they're just deadset on it becoming a blockbuster instead of putting in the effort of a show with minimal returns. The sad thing is that Emmerich's new Independence day looks pretty good, tbph, and I just don't see it failing enough for them to pull out of that Stargate movie.

Why was SGU bad? The answer is that it was Stargate, written by people who spent last decade writing Stargate trying to not be Stargate. Trying to be something else.

To begin with, it was a mistake. Typical misguided attempt at gaining new audience, resulting alienation of existing audience while potential new audience never got to find out that this show changed.

Stargate was always a show about brave and implausibly competent men and women fighting for greater good. I don't even hate Stargate Universe, but I really can't quite believe I'm watching Stargate, those characters are not people that could pass any kind of selection.

The writers were tired of doing the same old story, so they decided to do a grimdark semi reboot, without remembering who their fucking target demographic is, and what they enjoy. Same thing as happened to Voyager, i guess?
Also, if you do something brand new that's going to potentially alienate your fans, it needs to be good from the start.

>"We want the BSG crowd!"
>"We need more drama in Star Gate!"
>Pandered heavily to SJWs
>Show was no longer about discovering new worlds and civilizations with a comfy home base to back to, all with a lacquer of comedy and adventure, but X isn't talking to Y, so Y isn't going to be feeling so good on their journey to generic jungle planet No.11

SG1 and Atlantis were like Hercules and Xena in both their settings, attitude, and fun factor. They never took themselves seriously, and were just plain entertaining.

SGU was like watching someone who had never seen a Star Gate show before, and trying to make a dark space opera with as much drama as possible.

A show about the NID that ran parallel to SG-1 would be pretty neat. Like it's all about them running covert ops to maintain the balance of power in earth, working behind the scenes to prevent the catastrophes that SG-1 inevitably gets credit for, working undercover through the other SG teams to keep the SGC from destroying earth again this week.

It would the same kind of like Opposing Force, only with Stargate, and the SGC is the morally grey outfit endangering the planet.

>all with a lacquer of comedy
That lacquer of comedy SG-1 had wasn't inherently there from the beginning at all, though. That came in later seasons after the show had earned it. The show tried something different and fans repudiated it after 1 season, a lot of people even less. I can honestly see the producers' point that the fans hurt them. People pretend like this whole thing came out of nowhere too, like SG-1 and SGA weren't already seeing declines in viewership. The thing that always gets me though is that if you look at the current state of sci-fi, they were totally right in going grimdark. They should've thrown some Zero-g sex in one of the trailers so people would've had a better idea of what they were getting though.

Friendly reminder that all Stargate tv-show lore is non-canon. They are restarting the entire franchise because the director of the original movie got so buttblasted over the show becoming more popular than the movie, which meant he couldn't do the trilogy he wanted.

Earth suffers a near-apocalyptic nuclear war and the remnants of the US military use the Stargate to help rebuild human civilization by importing alien tech. In the early decades hard decisions had to be made, and not all supplies were gained through trade, but these raids were kept a secret from the general population. Show starts a generation after the nuclear war.

Have it be more like Battle Los Angeles, with regular spaceship invasions and all out war. Halfway postappocalyptic, it worked for The Walking Dead. Have a side-arc with people living in the ruins. You could do one about the Tok'ra or the Jaffa and the war from their point of view, you could do one about the Ancients first setting up the gate network and all of the trouble they encounter as that one woman said the Pegasus was loaded with way more aliens than anyone could imagine as well as inventing ones that simply went extinct by the time SG-1 is set. It could build up to the meeting of the four races. Then there is the war with the Wraith.

Stargate TNG based on that episode where they go to the future for five minutes and meet old Cassandra.

Same thing happened to Voyager, good concept, terrible execution.

Seems to happen to almost every science fiction show about humans trapped in some alien bullshit/part of space unless the show is a comedy from the start. Atlantis is sort of similar but was ok-ish and I have no idea how Battle Star managed to be good for at least three seasons.

Same with Andromeda as well. The premise of a man emerging from the event-horizon of a black hole into a new galactic dark age is fucking great, him trying to restore civilization is a great overarching plot. Then they just abandoned it by the second season or something by suddenly showing him holding some political talks and everything was more or less fine.
>>
the communication stones were the bum knee of the show. i don't think they should have gotten rid of them all together, just not make them available all the time. like they only work when not in ftl because the stone device was reverse engineered. that way it could only be used to check in for short periods, at least until the show had a chance to get on it's feet.

>lie about giving them a movie to wrap up
>give up on Universe when the writing was finally picking up

They were just terrible at making decisions.

I don't remember Ronon shitting all over Teal'C.

Because they desperately tried to make a grimderp BSG clone after that show became popular. This lost most of the Stargate fans almost immediately and a combination of unlikeable characters and stupid writing ("Let's fart around on Earth with this personality swap gizmo instead of swapping bodies with top scientists who might FIX THE FUCKING SHIP) lost most of the remaining viewers/

They show him being more badass than Teal'c throughout the series.

Then in the crossover ep Ronan fights Teal'c to a standstill when they spar before going to fight better than him against the Wraith who are taking over the SGC.

No, they just show him being badass. Ronon never dual-wielded P90's or anything stupidly "badass" like that.

>Ronan fights Teal'c to a standstill

Wasn't Teal'c off the alien steroids by then? Don't really remember. Either way, having them be equals in a sparring match is hardly shitting all over Teal'c. And of course Ronon fought wraiths better. He's spent his entire life hunted by them. It'd be bullshit if he was better at fighting Goa'uld.

The symbiote or the tritonin?
>>

The symbiote.

I don't really remember much of late SG-1, though. Did he get a tiny bit weaker after getting rid of the symbiote, with the plus being that he no longer needed a symbiote to survive, or am I remembering that wrong?

Yeah pretty sure he got a bit weaker and healed slower when he started taking the symbiote-replacement drug, Tritonin. I can't remember if he had to keep taking it forever or if they just wrote it out.

Teal'c was also almost sixty years older by this point so it wasn't like he was a young man of 80 anymore.

Didn't fucking happen. Ronon was bleeding out of his face and aping out all over the place, but Teal'c was still calm, collected and unharmed. Teal'c could have killed his ass but he was testing him.
