I'd assume 1. Star Wars has just always been popular in the UK, much more so than other countries, and 2. it's an English-language film. I doubt having Boyega in it matters that much. He's not an old established star.
>>
>>64585969
Star Wars has a good history in the UK. British actors, films were shot there, etc.

No, Patrician means being logical, believable, and to be of the mind that some things are in actuality doable, so as long as you're able to fight hard and to never give in especially when the going gets tough. but instead of that I guess you're of the mind that you can do all things so long as you believe in yourself; instead of applying time and effort like a Patrician or those with the spirit of the patriachy might, you instead are of the mind that its best to trust in the hidden tiara of divine feminine feminity which by its very ideological nature affects you to call on the collective powers of all the disney power princesses of yore to not only trump the improbable but to stomp the impossible---just like Mary Sue Rey did.
>>
>>64586040
Avatar is a franchise for nobody. It's completely forgotten from the public conscious and has left no lasting cultural imprint. It was shot for the purpose of aweing the LCD with now-dated CGI and a 3D gimmick, and that's all it did.

It has toppled Avatar. Nobody cares about worldwide because USA is all that matters.
>>
>>64586161
It quite obviously is. Anyone who works in special effects (professionals) will tell you Avatar was a real technical achievement. The world building was much more original in anything in TFA as well. These are objective facts, not an assessment of either movies' quality. Even TFA's positive reviews admit it's not original. You're going to have to fall back on appeals to popularity rather than "TFA is not unoriginal" as an argument.

Star Wars doesn't resonate with Third Worlders on the same level as a story about the White Man coming in and digging up their shit, bringing in a bunch of technology, and then telling them it's what's good for them. That's what Americans who said "It's just Fern Gully with Smurfs," didn't get. When Westerners see a movie like that, they feel like they're getting a sermon. When Third-Worlders see it, hey feel like they're getting validation.
>>
>>64585954

Not to laud TFA's story or anything but in my experience, this is old-person for "I couldn't follow what was going on."
>>
>>64586242
Neither heavy CG nor 3D was new when Avatar came out.

Star Wars was a pioneer in both practical effects and heavy CG due to both the OT and the Prequel series having cutting edge versions of both long before anybody.

>world building

Dances with Wolves in space with blue aliens and super forgettable characters. Real original...
>>

>took this long

Reddit = doesn't agree with me
pleb = opinion isn't even addressed
patrician = aligns entirely with my values
shilling/viraling = discussing something I don't like
>>
>>64586356
I've literally talked to real humans who work at an award-winning special effects company. They heavily praised Avatar. The visual effects were innovative, despite the movie's narrative staleness.

And I wasn't comparing it to OT or PT. I was comparing it to TFA. Avatar is clearly and easily more innovative than a generic action movie rehash covered in light swords.
>>
>>64586326

reddit = has edgy, youthful sensibilities, corny sense of humor (laughing at so randum XDD things and things soccer moms would enjoy), unsophisticated affinity for superficial things that seem substantial, pseudo-artistic/intellectual
>>
>>64586411
They're both generic action movies with tons of special effects. The difference is people will actually still care about TFA once it leaves theatres.
>>
>>64584828
Full article probably blames that performance on all the evul raycists that didnt go see it.

And yet /tv/ loves Drive.

Don't make me embarrass you.
>>
>>64586356
Kubrick made 2001 Space Odyssey with practical effects in the 60's that were better than original pleb wars.

Lucas cgi autist fest in the prequels, cgi had been heavily way before, it was nothing new.

>Dances with Wolves in space with blue aliens

More original than you spouting this, you should try to be more original.
>>
>>64586564
Drive is a meme. Nobody actually thinks it's anything special.
>>
>>64586494
Thats not true, the drop off in audiences has been massive and immediate. Avatar was a cultural phenomenon for a sustained period of time.

The effects in Avatar are obviously not typical of blockbuster action movies, and "forgettable" has been one of the most frequent adjectives used to describe TFA.

The nigger probably saw all the other SW movies already, and was expecting something new, not a rehash of story ideas from IV. You don't start to get that way until you're in your late 60s. Leave it to a teenager to think your 40s are primetime senile years.
>>
>>64586477
you just described /tv/
>>
Turns out being patrician is about liking things that make most money.
>>
>>64586648
This. You can tell there's a lot of cross-posters here cause of all the forced hug-box mentality, the SW prequel-apologists, and general Cameron movie hate. The general board views are flipped as well, compared to 2008 when I joined. Hell, I came in cause of Project Chanology and now these fags have conservative christian views. They play fedora on reddit and come praise religion here.
>>
>>64588707
It's a cheap, meaningless criticism, that's all. "It had no plot" means nothing, unless the movie was literally just a discordant sequence of images on the screen. Saying "The plot was unoriginal" or "The plot was too simplistic" or "The plot was incomprehensible" are meaningful things to say. "It had no story" I basically throwing your hands up and saying "I dunno".
