Things I like about it are some of the main cast and characters.
the cinematography which is a weird mix of Malick meets BBC Nature Docs. It is tryhard as fuck and sometimes results to nice scenes.
The passage of time is done pretty well here, not as good as say Friday Night Lights but better than say, Game of Thrones.
Season 1 and 3 (up until the terrible tweest) are my favorites.

It was written so emotionally and it was a great moment to pass of Ragnar and the Ragnar dying arc was honestly one of the saving graces in writing for this show. Everything about the acting, general writing of that arc and then it's just taken away when he doesn't (and really was never going to) die. If he had died there it had been a great end for him.

They're adapting the sagas to add drama, they made Rollo and Ragnar brother despite being atleast 60+years separating their birth. They'll also make Floki discover Iceland, I think.

I think they wanted to make Rollo an antagonist way too early on. They should have made him and Ragnar way closer at the beginning of the show, and have him subtly drift apart ( because of Lagertha, Ragnar's fame, etc.. ) to make his "betrayal" (more like going his own way) cleaner.

Well the betrayals were clear in the show, that's the issue. It goes so fast from friend-to-enemy.
Agree 100% with everything you said. The way they established Rollo as character and his motivations REALLY grinds my gears. It's just too fast from 0 to 100.
I'm pretty critical of the show but that's just because I really like some of the brighter moments the show has and think it has potential to be a good show.

One of the best moments in the show are those when Ragnar gets into trouble because of his dick, because honestly he feels bit Gary Stu to me and one of the few times he has shit blowing up in his face is when he thinks with his dick.
Like early episodes with Ragnar, Aslaugh and Lagertha meeting are hilarious comedy.

I guess a lot of people don't know about the actual legends behind Ragnar('s Sons) and Rollo. If you want some spoilers, I'll write them out here.

The last thing I want to mention is that the fuckers are speaking Icelandic in the show as opposed to Old Norse. Sure, I believe they are using Old Norse words, but the Icelandic pronunciation (especially "Ég" instead of "ek") kills me after all the work I've put into learning ON. The absolute worst was the early episodes of Season 3, when Lagertha and the King are speaking and they rely on the priest to translate. I'm nearly positive they were using Old English for the King (which came about post-norse influence) - I could understand most things he said via Old Norse, yet Lagertha acted like she hadn't a clue. It bothered my poor linguistic heart.

Everyone speaks English within their community (muh TRANSLATED FOR VIEWERS) and then spout some shit against Englishmen in whatever language and after one episode they've all taught the opposing side their language and now everyone speaks English
