The weirdest part about what they're doing with Rey is that it will probably backfire in promoting the idea of strong female leads in film.
I was talking to this normal girl at my work, and her main criticism with the film was that she was "tired of all of these films with strong female leads." I was pretty surprised, because I don't think it makes sense for a girl to be against a strong female lead, or really anyone to be against it, but I'm pretty sure most people think any example of something is representative of it as a whole. All of these movies coming out with lazy depictions of strong female leads with no character development will probably push people against the whole notion of a strong female lead.

I don't really know how Jedi grow in the force. I just don't see him getting much stronger than he was in Return. I mean maybe the skills he showed then have improved with practice but How are you really developing new skills with no one around to practice or train with. I guess Yoda, Ben and Anakin could give clues to the things they knew or insight from being "one with the force". It's just it's not like he didn't have other shit to do. War clean up, finding a place to train, finding force sensitive students, the day to day shit of running a school. How much time could he have really had to improve himself.
