Well i just saw this.

It started well, i must admit, but overall a huge disappointment.
It's not scary, not really funny either, not that interesting on the sex part(s), bit tedious quite often and mostly boring past the 30' min mark.

I tried hard to enjoy this meme generator, but there really isn't much to do so, except bale's performance here and there.
Far too many scenes don't add anything to the story.

/tv/'s feel, meme aside ?

I thought it was really good if you thought of Patrick as someone going insane about the life he was living and fantasized about his homicidal tenancies

do you like huey lewis and the news?
>>
Did he actually check all those dubs or was it all in his imagination?
>>

Yeah but just few exemples : what's the point of the hooker he is bringing twice to his fuck parties ? Whether it's fantasy or not, what does she add to the story ? How does it fulfill his fantasy or his desire ?

I was expecting some social criticism, a need from him to humiliate her or something. But no, he picks her up, talks about music (which is supposed to be funny but is already getting old the second time), fuck are harm her, and... that's it. What was the point ?

What about that scene with his secretary in his appartement ? He is pretending to have a conversation while deciding how he's gonna kill her, then a phone call from his gf, then goodbye.
What was the point of the scene ? He's a psycho and wanted/fantasize about killing her ?
>>
What is his fascination with repeating digits?
>>
>>64564961

He wanted to find fulfillment.

He wanted to try to find his dream girl and the hookers were just hookers.

As for the secretary he was testing her, hence he was asking her each question as he went from his knives to the duct tape to the nailgun.

You would hate the book. Almighty Jesus, it was in need of some chopping down.
>>
I actually don't think you're supposed to love this movie in the sense that you want to watch it again. Just like the book, it's a satire on this egotistical life people live. I think you're supposed to feel that the whole thing, including the violence, is monotonous.

He was part of that whole dubs thing.

It's fuckin good and funny as well, sorry you're a product of your generation. Best wishes lad.

ALL IN HIS HEAD
>>
It's social commentary in that manic perverts are at the top (because the capitalist system makes psychos the fittest to win this game) and nothing stopping them.
The plot is trying to be funny by absurdity.
Directed by a female!?
>>
It's to my understanding that the movie was made in such a way as to force the viewer to draw their own conclusions.

I think he did it, but the vast majority of his consequences were figments of his imagination.

Nah, his pistol really shot explosives

The point is all these yuppies in the 80s are so sociopathic that nothing matters, names, anything. Also he didn't kill anyone. The book is really good to and I'd rec it.
>>
It's the Wolf of Wall Street before TWOWS essentially.
>>
>>64565475
No it doesn't. All that superfluous description of clothes and shit is hilarious.
>>
Hey anon, do you like Huey Lewis & the news?
>>
Get a load of this
>>
>>64565475
Maybe but i mean that would just be my opinion, as it is for the "joke" not amusing me the second time.
What i really don't get is the point of the movie and/or it is so highly rated, especially on this board.
All these scenes with William Defoe, where do they lead ? Maybe the scene in the restaurant, where Pat he remembers he was in Atlantic City ? And that's it ?
The big disappointement is that it starts as some sort of social criticism, and as soon as Paul Allen dies, there is nothing left except Bateman, who isn't very interesting, in the end.

>>64565039
How is it interesting that this serial-kill / psycho fulfill himself with an escort and a random hooker ? What's so original about it ? "The girl of his dream", yeah, he wanted her Blonde and that's it.

And about this "testing" you're refering to, what did he test exactly ? "Are you happy ?" "Do you feel fulfilled ?" "What's your goal ?"
Is there any answer she gives even remotely, slightly original ? No. Either "i don't know" or whatever, the only point of the scene is to raise tension about whether or not she is going to die.
In the end she does not die, we didn't learn anything about him or her and there is no follow-up consequences about the fact his gf interrupted him.
But once again, if it's all in his head, the scene is basically nothing. It's like this scene in Eyes Wide Shut when Tom Cruise come across a hooker, then decides to leave because his wife calls - except, it's a very well made scene, sensual, with huge sexual tension, unformulated doubt and so much more.

I didn't get anything out of this sequence in American Psycho, as i didn't in many others (and i really can't see how one would).

Only after many years' distance did Brett Easton Ellis admit that he was just feeling pretty fucking shitty when he wrote American Psycho--it was, in essence, a long violent escapist fantasy used by a young man to avoid his own issues.

What was the point of any of that book (or movie, in this case)? No one fucking knows. No one's been able to make sense of it, the author himself flip flops on what it is and isn't, and all that can be said for sure is that it's fun, it's cynical, and it allows for multiple interpretations. The book did as well.

Why did he hang out with Tom Cruise in an elevator? Why did Bono pronounce himself the devil? Why did he allow rats to crawl up women's vaginas?

Nobody ever knows, anon. That's what makes Psycho so good -- these dubs

This is usually not a very good sign, one time watch, because you have to, so many overhyped films fit in this category...

I enjoyed this idea in the movie too, but as OP said, it ends when Paul Allen dies (iirc ?)

But you got some desu f a m. Its all about American corporate culture, and how it is both ruthless but also pointless.

Personally its one of my favourite films.

If he didn't like them he'd kill them like he did the hookers. He couldn't relate to them.

Oh, and we live in the perspective of Brendan's mind.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gE6AVp-2Jic

He's crazy.

The world around him is very normal. To him he hates it.

Bateman was a fucking dork. Why do you think he's a meme

>But you got some desu f a m. Its all about American corporate culture, and how it is both ruthless but also pointless.

If this was true, i would have enjoyed the film, and that what i was expecting to see, especially after the openning. This is my main point, you say it's one of your favorite film but when did you see for the last time ? I can garantee you there absolutely nothing about corporate culture once you cross the 25 min mark. There's one gathering with his corpmates, when he finds out about "that guy" being gay, otherwise there's strictly nothing about this culture you're talking about.

It's all about Patrick Bateman, a psycho killer who needs to murder people (in his head) to fulfill himself. Corporate culture is 1/6th of the film, at most.

>>64565925
>and it allows for multiple interpretations
Not that many... (at least in the film). But if it doesn't make sense, on purpose, it could at least be interesting on the cinematographic part (- Mulholland Drive) ? And it's not, so except for the moderately entertaining personnality of Bateman, there's basically nothing.

Well, we have to end apartheid for one. And slow down the nuclear arms race, stop terrorism and world hunger. We have to provide food and shelter for the homeless, and oppose racial discrimination and promote civil rights, while also promoting equal rights for women. We have to encourage a return to traditional moral values. Most importantly, we have to promote general social concern and less materialism in young people.
