Metropolis.

Nothing else comes close to it's cinematography and awe inspiring spectacle.

couldn't really pinpoint it to a specific film, there were many really good ones
Every Keaton film I've watched was nothing but a wonderful experience, I always loved his style and him as a person, I prefer him over Chaplin although he was great, too
Metropolis is an obvious candidate, amazingly done, I can't find a flaw nearly 8 decades after it's been made
I've only recently watched dr caligari and thought it was extremely good too

Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans

It's one of the best films ever made period.

I'm watching Coeur Fidele right now, and, damn, that's impressive for 1923

anything by murnau, lang or chaplin, probably correct.

most underrated choice will be Cabiria (1914)

City Lights. That ending scene is the only romance scene to actually affect me.
