It's a leftover from the original scripts, which was the way the movie was shot. Basically, Anakin believes that the Jedi were actually evil, that was the main reason he became Vader, instead of turning to save Padme's life. Lucas just edited it very well in post-production, to make that plot line less important, and bring out the other ones he liked.

Wow, do you have ADD? The Luke vs Vader duel in ESB is the best one in the series. Its long, not slow. Its very tense, atmospheric and reveals a lot of major plot points and emotions. Theres several aspects to the fight, like Vader force throwing random shit at him and hiding in a corridor for an ambush. It was the perfect balance of emergent story telling and depth.
