Why was this so good?
>>
The sound design was fucking awesome.

Watching with headphones makes it so fucking terrifying.
>>
i want to watch it but im too scared
>>
>>64539119
It's more eerie than scary. There is one scene that can turn a weak stomach though. Comes out of fucking know where too.
>>
This movie was overall shit.

nice photography

superb dialogue
spooky third act

could have done with a rape scene though
>>
Matthew Fox was even good in it and he isn't good in anything

Hearing the deputy's turds hitting the ground when they cut him in half.
>>
>>64539385
>If you move it ya dun goofed
>moves it
>aaaaaaaaaaaaaaayee

Predictable but still hard to watch
>>
>>64539465
I was thinking the same thing. Also Patrick "muh leg" Wilson, who I usually find pretty hit-or-miss definitely hit in this film. I actually didn't know Matthew Fox or Richard Jenkins were even in this film until after it was over, if that says anything for how good the performances were.
>>
>>64537812
It was pretty just ok not that good really
>>
It felt like a barb wire, I can't explain it. Despite its weird savages, everything felt down to earth, realistic (the people, the journey). They found use for Matthew Fox's weird aura too.
>>
Overall, I didn't enjoy this movie. It seemed like it wanted to be a spooky version of Django Unchained (though obviously without much of the humour). But I found the sudden zero-to-hunred-to-zero violence scenes (until the final twenty minutes or so) to be fantastic.

Much better than Hateful Eight.

Fucking this. I almost turned the movie off when I saw he was in it but I'm glad I stuck it through. He's great in this.
>>
My main problem was the mood it set. Like the plot is so insane and out there, they could have had fun with it. I could have totally seen Tarantino directing this. It had the potential to be a fun campy western horror. But instead they push this depressing realistic tone through the whole movie.

Not saying it was bad, I just think it could have been a whole lot better. Probobly wont be watching it again.
>>
>>64542426
It's not supposed to be fun, though. The tone is what makes the film eerie and frightening.
>>
>>64539290
How did it come out of nowhere? She just talked about what they did to the other guy.
>>
>>64540471
kek. It was good, though.

Not realizing it's a dialogue driven devolvement to a horror story

Great movie. Glad tv put me on to this.

The singularity of the directors vision was achieved. No cop out.

This, expected a lot more. Plus they killed David and Sid off way too fast.
>>
>Dialogue was decent.
>Acting was good.
>Story was pretty great.

The last thirty minutes saved it from being mediocre, though.
>>
>>64537812
All the little details, especially the costumes. You had carpet literal baggers, scallywags, mexicans, indian that looked like an apache or blackfoot.

And the sound design. Even in the first few seconds the sound of the guy's throat getting cut is the same as if you're cleaning a rabbit. Too real.

Everything was just so earthy and gritty. It created a great atmosphere. You really got a sense that there was some love put into it.
>>
>>64542442
A film can be eerie a frightening but also have a more light tone.
>fright night
>shaun of the dead
>drag me to hell
>evil dead
>cabin in the woods
Ect

I didn't gain anything from the movie so if its not going to be transformative it can at least be entertaining. Again it was an ok movie, I just think it would be interesting to see a different version of the same script directed by someone else

And what this guy said. It was slow. (Nothing wrong with slow) just didn't work with this movie.

Not him but that's why I liked it. It was traditional slow dusty western pacing with a big climax. That's rarer and more interesting to me than a retread of 80's/90's style horror comedy. I would have been much less enthusiastic if it was what you describe. And I say that when I love most of the movies on your list.

You sound like you need to watch Ravenous though. That's almost exactly what you're talking about and has that lighter tone. Fucking great movie too.

Retarded is a cruel word to describe the dialogue. Granted it sometimes felt subpar but the performances were all top notch enough to deliver it well.
That "flea circus" part near the end could have been corny, but the delivery of Richard Jenkens was brilliant, that & his constant nods to the ghost of his wife next to him.

It was alright, but it was way too fucking slow. Takes what, an hour and twenty minutes until they get to the cave? Most everything up to that point is them fucking traveling and talking. And sorry, but not even Kurt can carry that. Either cut out half the travel scenes or interject with what the trogs are up to. Show David Arquette explaining what happened and getting eaten, trogs raping a bitch, whatever. Also fuck that bumbling retarded old man, was very angry that mouthbreather lived and I had to watch Kurt Russell die again in a movie.
>>
>>64545923
I liked all the slow travelling to the cave better than the cave its self.

The Brigands scares were fun.
>>
Troglodytes were spooky. Not sure how to explain... not the warrior indians themselves but their entire implied culture.

-"rape their mothers and eat them"
-no language, communicate through noises
-neck whistles
-blind, pregnant, amputees.....

The how and the why of these and everyday living make the movie much more disturbing than what it actually explains.

I liked it. The pacing was good, no supernatural bullshit, climax was satisfying and not intentionally grimdark just for the sake of being dark. Some of the first few setpieces in town looked weird, but that could have been from the weird motion effect of the TV we watched it on.

My friends and I unanimously gave it 3/5
>>
>>64545998

Savages are savages, read historical accounts on indians in the west in the XIXth century.

The movie doesnt exagerate anything.

It's actually a pretty accurate account on what the wild west was disguised as a "horror" film to calm the teats of sjws

You sure are assblasted.

Your "ancestors" may be of one of many tribes, if anything, because you know, there where a lot of different cultures designated as "Indians"

Who are you to speak for all (let alone any) of the indians? Indian is not even an objective word, because many tribes where so extremely different they barely had anything in common. "Indian" is like "white", a very, very general term.

You're disrespecting your own "kind" if that even exists by pretending to represent them, you're no one, just like everyone else.

Who are you to think what they told you is not twisted either? Why do you think I'm a pale face?

Many "Indian" groups where nomadic and pillaged, raped and castrated their enemies, "white faces" or even other indians:

Who are you to curse me? You are a real savage regardless of etnicity, because you are ignorant and will do harm without thought.

May the spirit of the Hawk save others of idiots like you, and may Christ and any benevolent being or God forgive you for your idiocy and ignorance.

>whats some good starting material, preferably online?

An unlikely one, because the book is expensive as FUCK:

My Confession, by Samuel Chamberlain

If you want fiction that's extremely accurate historically, read Cormac McCarthy's Blood Meridian

Dancing Gods by Ferguson is a 10/10 book on indian culture and dances.

These books are not /pol/ tier hate rage, the're objective and illustrative of a different culture, but unlike modern depictions of indians in media, they tell about the not so pretty stuff, like the usual practice of castration and scalping and raping very common in many tribes, even of children and dead bodies.

They didnt call them "savages" for nothing, Indian culture clashed completely with western civilization.

This fucking wife was extremely irritating. Her acting in the first few scenes was shitty and seemed too modern. And then not only didnt she get raped and tortured, but also her nagging/bitching around after the guys finally came to save her. She seemed completely unaffected by the horror around her and quickly behaved like a comical damsel in distress by kissing her husband through the cage.
Some other things that stuck out: the Hanzi scenes seemed too rushed.
Why was Jack even in this town, what was he doing there?
Wtf was that "jewelry" the injuns had in their necks?
Mexcians steal horses but dont just slaughter everyone, they had guns afterall (killed scout dropped one).
Other horses the injuns took are gone for some reason.
>>
>>64548174

It is very accurate in that it is well documented.

The ficticious part does not interfere with the historical part, so assuming you are able to discern between both you should get a pretty good representation of the era.

Also I meant the historical accuracy part mostly for the other two books.

My Confessions by Samuel Chamberlain.

Even Mexicans hated indians with a passion.

And dont let anyone tell you Indians didnt hate Indians either, they quite frequently killed eachother.

Bone Tomahawk's depiction of "troglodytes" is a very feasible and realistic depiction of a tribe of indians irl
