I've yet to see a black and white film more recent than the 1960's that has decent lighting.

This. Say what you want about his inability to make a coherent film, but holy shit Tom Six has some beautiful knowledge of cinematography.

I saw it recently but someone on /tv/ ruined my experience of it. It was recommended to me as a surreal film, but it didn't turn out to be one at all. If I didn't go into it with these kinds of expectations I would have probably enjoyed it more.

sweet smell of success
great shots of new york
Nykvist was a great photographer. Everything from he did with Bergman is breathtaking. I like the photography and cinematography of Tarr's films especially Satantango and Werckmeister Harmonies. Bresson, (mid-career) Renoir, Antonioni. The list goes on.
