It's less about their armour, I think, and more what their armour represents.
When people think of any of the armours here, they think less of what the armour looks like, and more about the characters in them. Basically, subconciously, it comes down to which set of troops you like most.

Snow Troopers are objectively the best in terms of combat prowess, but their design is awful.

I like the TFA troopers the best. It takes the classic albeit somewhat clunky design of the OT troopers and modernises it.

Phase II are the most intimidating and spooky looking. They have like this skull look to their helmet designs.
They're a nice mixture of Mandolorian and classic Stormtrooper. I like the visors the best, especially when you see the blast reflections of when they're shooting down the Jedi. My favorite looking ones are the blue platoon of troopers that follow Darth Vader to take down the Jedi Temple.
Commander Cody was pretty great too. He fucked up by giving Obi-Wan back his lightsaber seconds before Order 66 though.
After Phase II, I definitely go with the Original Trilogy Stormtroopers. Can't beat the classics. I love the voices and little moments like in ANH where they're talking about that new speeder while Obi-Wan is behind the corner.
