The entire Attack on Jakku opening scene is GOAT. The stormtroopers raiding the village, Kylo's introduction, his conversation with Lors before he kills him, then afterwards catching Poe's blaster shot.
Way better than Revenge of the Sith's goofy opening that has like three different tones and awkward dialouge.

Darth Maul was essentially just a fuckin lightsaber and he was more menacing, intimidating and knew how to fight. He spins around and shit too lad, actually good to watch, kills jedi master and unluckily dies in passion fueled scene where apprentice avenges his master.

skirting around any lingering drama is easier for filmmakers to do and more palatable to plebs. More dramatic scenes = more chances for awkward or atonal parts, which Disney et al. desperately wanted to avoid (for one, to distance themselves from the PT). I think breaking the tension with humor was fine in this situation because it establishes the kind of person Poe is. There are other moments when the tension being broken hurts the story. Not this one. This was good.

We're on the imperal ship then 10 seconds later Finn and Poe are already escaping, then 10 seconds later they're in the TIE, then 10 seconds later they're already back on Jakku. Then 10 seconds later Finn is already near Rey, etc..
The whole thing had the pacing of a Transformers movie.
